Due to the consequences of depression, it can cause an individual to feel emotionally useless, hopeless, and shameful of themselves. To prevent these feelings that builds to depression one should try to maintain these symptoms before it become severe. People in society should not throw harsh words as well as changing their mind of viewing depressed people as shameless, and that they will not be able to function properly. Instead, these judgmental comments made for depressed people are keeping them from seeking medical help. Most of them think that they are better off to keep it in, and until they can no longer to bare with it no more, then bad reactions will occur. Therapist suggests to cross out negativity around us, and start to find a healthier environment to live in. According to an organizer called the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) states that “Up to 80% of those treated for depression show an improvement in their symptoms generally within four to six weeks of beginning medication, psychotherapy, attending support groups or a combination of these treatments.” That shows depression is very treatable for almost every person. Getting the right treatment can do a very effective job in helping people to recognize their strengths, and allow them to see the ability of getting better. Taking small steps will be quickly add up. In order for one to improve their illness, he/she needs to attempt different resources to overcome depression. The benefits of talking to therapist for depression have been overstated in the scientific literature, reported by a study in the journal Plos One. Studies also show that a well trained therapist can help a person view depression differently. For instance, a person can be more open minded about the difficulties that they have to face in everyday life. Chipman states that “As evidenced by UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg’s recent announcement that the UK government will commit £120m in funding to reduce waiting times for mental health treatment.” The author shows the urgency of finding cure for millions of people that are struggling for over decades. Nobody should undervalue the effect of mental illness, and all of these emotional pain it makes people feel. Depression is not like a flu where we can get rid of over one day or two.
