When I get a request on any social websites, I make sure I know the person or not to be following me. I have seen a lot of cyber bullying everywhere on the internet. It does scare me seeing what cyber bullying can do to someone’s life. There are time when you have to think of the people to choose to know your life and trust. For an example, I had a friend that was dating a guy for four years and their relationship ended terribly. Her ex-boyfriend knew everything and posted some personal things about people on text messages. This cause people to dislike her and treat her with disrespect. It made her not to be around the outside world for awhile and got her depressed. She had to go to therapy to get better and take medicines from all of the cyber …show more content…
People are on their computers, phones or any technology devices 24/7. This make the person distance not wanting to be seen or social. Communication turn out to be bad and feel awkwardly around people in public. In my family, I have an older brother that is anti-social not wanting to come out of his room. The only thing he does to keep him satisfy are playing video games and taking classes online. This makes a negative effect on people and depend on social networking to keep them “company”. The article ‘Web of Risks’ by Brad Stone, is about how young adults misuse social media and there are consequences. Cameron Walker, a sophomore at Fisher College had organized a petition dedicated to getting a campus security guard fired and put it on Facebook. Marc Zuckerberg designed Facebook in 2003 and it is a well-known website used worldwide. On the Facebook page Walker wrote that the security guard harassed students and needed to be eliminated. His plan backfired due to his use of wording and it came off threatening so he was expelled. Social media is looked at as a way to express yourself. Different social networks are used such as Facebook, Bebo, and Myspace. On these sites sometimes personal life is published,
“I didn't know what Facebook was, and now that I do know what it is, I have to say, it sounds like a huge waste of time –Betty White (“Betty White Quotes,” 2014, para. 1).” This quote can be interpreted to fit with several of the social media avenues that many people spend their time on. Day in and day out people post, tweet, share, and pin countless times throughout the world. These different forms of communication were first created for an easier way for people to connect with others. Yet now, so much time is spent on these social sites that it has warped the interactive part and is causing more damage than good. Many are growing a desire and are living for the amount of “likes” they can receive on a post or how many re-tweets they can generate. Instead of going to these outlets to participate in a partial portion of their social lives, people are filling that time with the technological aspect of communication. As White said, this can become an inordinate amount of wasted time and can ultimately grow into further damaging circumstances. These different social media channels can cause emotional harm through disparaging the relationship between friends, conjuring of a narcissistic personality, and the retrogradation of ones self-esteem.
When you think about social media what do you think of. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Vine. Well social media is more than that. Social media is not just Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Social media is any online website that lets you interact with other people, share photo and information and keeps you updated. Or do you think about how it’s made a positive or negative impact on today’s society. In my personal opinion I think social media has made both positive and negatives impacts on today’s society .Some of the negative impacts are cyberbullying and addiction, and the positive impacts are spreading the word and increasing business sales.

Social media allows students to not only group themselves with peers who are similar, but also to enhance and link existing peer groups. In addition to enhancing established peer groups, social media can bridge the diversity that exists in classrooms by establishing a “neutral zone” in which students can interact with one another. For many

Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Social media can have detrimental effects on the formation of an adolescent’s identity such as social isolation meaning that the individual will spend excessive amounts of time attached to any electronics that will provide him with social media access. Social media has impacted everyone that has used it some point in his or her life. Since the world is increasing in technology advances, so is social media which can be good and bad. Technology has made a huge difference in the world and definitely how people are doing things now. Yes, the Internet can be good for the majority of things we use it for such as finding research, keeping in touch with family or friends who are far away, and saving time and money. Others like to take advantage of social media and use it in a way that can hurt people; it may not hurt them physically, but it can hurt them emotionally. Examples of how some people use the Internet in a bad way include cyberbullying, identity theft, or cyberstalking. Social media has impacted the Millennial generation for sure.
Social media began in 1969 and started affecting teenagers’ lives in 1971 when the first email was sent. Out of almost 3 billion users of Facebook, Twitter and other social networks, millions of them are teenagers (Facebook 1). Teenagers spend too much time on social network putting their lives on different types of risks like cyber bullying, risk their education, illegal activities, loneliness, and drama. As time passes, more and more teenagers are being attracted to the new social networks. Thanks to all this all new social pages, younger people are able to start using the internet just like teenagers and adults use it and they are putting themselves in more danger than teenagers since they sometimes use false information to access these pages and are more likely to be convinced of doing something wrong or be affected by others. There’s no denying that social media has its many pros and cons, but I think that the positive impacts of social media outweigh its negative impacts. One example of how social media has been an influence for social change was during the Arab Spring, a series of uprisings, armed rebellions, and anti-government protests that took the Middle East by storm in early 2011. Social media, especially Twitter, was used as a communication tool; government corruption and injustices were unveiled, protests were organized, and many were rallied to join the cause of Arab Spring activists.
