Introduction. Child abuse is a doing by a parent or someone who takes care of the child that brings about emotional harm, physical injury, or even death. In America, more than 3 million cases of child abuse are reported annually. Physical abuse refers to abuse when the caregiver or the parent causes an intentional physical injury to a child. Sexual abuse takes place when an adult is involve in sexual relations with a child or he involves a child in sexual acts. Emotional mistreatment takes place when a person who is takes care of the child harms the child’s social and mental development. Emotional abuse is a series of incidences that cause emotional damage overtime. As any other problem, child abuse has some causes which need to be solved. The causes include poverty in the family of the abusers, lack of sufficient education, marital problems, violence between family members, unemployment, inadequate housing, social separation, and lack of support from their family. Some public attitudes also inspire child abuse. This include, support of the use of violence and force, accepting physical punishing of children, racial discrimination, the public gives the singular ‘ownership’ right and the right to treat their children the way they want (Lemoncelli). These attitudes play an important part in encouraging child abuse and they need to be changed so as to stop the vice of child abuse. Most of the abusers which can either be parents or caregivers have the following aspects. Lack good parenting skills, they may be depressed, they may be drug addicts, have mental illness or have work pressures.
