1. Student’s A response was overall very poor and did not even remotely demonstrate effective critical thinking skills. I gave the student a total score of 4. In regards to their identification and summarization of the problem, I gave them the score of 1. I find the term associated with this number to be very accurate as it is referred to as the “Biased Jumper.” Student A continually addressed his thoughts, opinions and feelings through many “I” statements. Due to the student focusing on their thoughts, they jumped from one idea to the next without critically considering the various perspectives or the multi-faceted issues at hand with HPV. Although the student clearly indicates that there is an evident problem, they do not go into depth about the context and impact of the problem. In regards to identifying other perspectives, I gave the student a 1 because they do acknowledge the perspectives (Christians, families and scientists). However, they fail to objectively discuss the other possible perspectives in a necessary, analytical way. The quality of this student’s supporting data/evidence was partially developed. As a result, I gave them a 1 because they did identify some evidence from the article that supported their own conclusion. However, they equated unsupported personal opinions with other evidence. In addition, their evidence is not very factual and accurate. Student A misinterprets some of the evidence from the article to support their personal opinion. While doing this, they fail to include the context which therefore leads their statements to be mostly false as they do not take into account the greater scope of the issues and concepts. While doing this, they need to identify all the factors surrounding this issue like its effectiveness based on data and long term impacts on the cost and benefits. In order to create and implement a marketing campaign, they need to gather data through market research in order to generate new ideas, identify a target market, price, timeline, marketing strategy, etc. They need to focus and hone in on their data in terms of importance, relevance and reliability. A marketing professional constantly has to problem solve and come up with conclusions and then articulate their insights and then defend how it will results in future improvements. Overall, as an aspiring marketing professional, I need to continue to develop my critical thinking skills because it is vital for the career I hope to have.
