The Importance of Physical Activity in Diabetic Individuals
Introduction
Diabetes is a metabolic disease where there is an excess amount of glucose in the blood as a result of the body not being able to generate enough, if any, insulin. It is a lifelong disorder that relies on daily care in areas such as lifestyle, nutrition, and blood monitoring (Dinneen 2006). Insulin is a hormone which works to control a person’s blood glucose levels by allowing one to use the glucose from food to store or use as energy. Physical activity of moderate intensity has been linked to the decreased likelihood of the development of cardiovascular diseases and has many other health benefits. These include the control of blood pressure as well as cholesterol, and …show more content…

The study’s purpose was to figure out if the implementation of regular exercise in individuals with type 2 diabetes would increase the efficiency of the function of mitochondrial cells as well as triglyceride oxidation. Their study concluded that adequately intense physical activity along with mild weight loss made a substantial improvement in both density of mitochondria, and insulin sensitivity (Trenell, Hollingsworth, Lim & Taylor 2008). This shows that exercise has a large benefit on individuals with type 2 diabetes. This will help prolong the lives of these individuals without having to have many visits to medical centers as well as lowers the chances of developing various complications in relation to type 2 …show more content…

The results showed that the majority of responses recorded a relatively low quality of life (Glasgow, Ruggiero, Eakin, Dryfoos & Chobanian 1997). The authors found that the amount of self-reported physical activity was the only substantial self-controlling behavior to estimate the quality of life from a list of several factors, and concluded that adequate exercise regimens could be started with people who have diabetes who are in danger of a low quality of life (Glasgow, Ruggiero, Eakin, Dryfoos & Chobanian 1997). Overall, quality of life has been directly linked to physical activity specifically among diabetic individuals which demonstrates the importance of regular exercise for
