Jeremy and Twitch

The sun was glittering on the sidewalk as Jeremy ducked his head under his hat while a policeman passed by, walking briskly. He slowed down, surveying Jeremy’s friends then locking eyes with Jeremy. Yes, they looked like they were up to no good. Rachel’s multi-colored hair and piercings were a giveaway; plus Twitch was always twitching, so the cops always thought he was on drugs. Maybe he was, Jeremy wouldn’t know. He didn’t hang out with these people to get high or anything; he had a bad stint in middle school and didn’t want a repeat. Rachel and Twitch were accepting of him, and that’s what he liked. Going to a big-shot university didn't help in the friend department, until he first found Twitch (aka Timothy). The cop was already down the street, but Jeremy observed a cop car pulling up to the curb in front of Ben & Jerry’s. Rachel suddenly stretched like a bemused cat from her sitting position, prepared for the ‘no loitering’ talk. Instead, a hefty policeman stepped out, relieving the stress on the car’s tires and hurrying into the ice cream shop without a glance at either at them. With a sigh of relief and a chuckle from Rachel, the group gathered their backpacks, boards and skated off into the direction of UC Berkeley. The sun was on its slow descent downward and there wasn’t much to do at night, it was a Wednesday. Entering the stone and steel co-ed dorms together, Rachel waved a hasty goodbye, muttering something along the lines of “I need to pee”. Jeremy and Twitchy shrugged at each other and made their way to their shared dorm. As they shuffled down the hall in comfortable silence, Jeremy flashed back to when he and Twitch first met. It was his first day on the job, and he had just battled his way through a tear-staine... ... middle of paper ... ...sor has called his name. “Mr. Moore. Mr. Moore! Will you please pay attention!” Professor Walden exasperates. “Sorry. What was the question?” “If a person has delusional parasitosis, what is the recommended treatment?” “The primary treatment is much like those for delusional disorders and schizophrenia. In the past, pimozide, also used in treating tourrett syndrome, was the drug of choice when selecting from the typical antipsychotics. Currently, a typical antipsychotics such as olanzapine or risperidone are used as first line treatment,” Jeremy recites directly from the textbook. His photographic memory helped in situations such as these. “Correct...But Mr. Moore, please remember that listening to my lectures will be beneficial, because a photographic memory should not be the determinant of your grade in this class.” With a huff, Walden continued his lecture.
