Education gives people the competence and skills to pilot the world. It also allows people to provide and contribute to their society and community. Like Nelson Mandela said “ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Similar to our lives, our educational journeys are different from one another. My educational journey was a very complicated journey. My family and mentors supported me, so was able to overcome those obstacles. The biggest motivation that got me through this journey was my father’s courage and love for education.
My father was a huge advocate for education. He always motivated us and encouraged us to get a higher education. My father came from a small village in Somalia where there were no schools. At six years old, he was the first person in his village to attend school. He graduated from high school at age of 15 and was able to attain a four year scholarship to attend university in the United Kingdom. After he completed his first bachelor degree, he came back to his homeland. Upon his return, he received another scholarship to the United States to get his master’s degree. My father came to the United States in 1965 where he attended university of Michigan and obtained his first master degree in physics and math. The following year he was able to obtain his second master’s degree in literature. My father always told us “if I was able to get a masters degree under my circumstances, then the sky is the limit for you”.
Unfortunately, before I was able to attend school the civil war broke out in my homeland, Somalia. We were forced to flee to the neighboring country. My family and I then settled in Nairobi, Kenya in 1991. I was too young to attend school, we ended up living in K...

I completely agree with this code. I believe education is the willingness to learn not for the sake of rewards, but for the ability to expand our thoughts and ideas and also to solve problems and to know the unknown.
To go through your educational journey successfully, you need to be surrounded by people who will support you and an institution that will be able to provide you with all the right tools that you need. Saint Mary’s University was able to provide me with the right tools that I need to obtain my degree. The staffs of Saint Mary’s University are very helpful and are experts in their field. My educational journey will not end at Saint Mary’s University, as long I’m alive.
