Like John Dewey has once said, “education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” The view of education is different for every individual. As of for me, education is the highlight of my life. I feel like education comes from the ability of opportunity and privilege. Education does not always come easy, as of for me pursuing an education is not the easiest task due of my families’ background, finances and past education, and what I wish I can do to get closer to my career. I was born into a family where my grandparents and my parents did not have the opportunity to get an education and pursue their dreams. My grandparents went through a time of war, famine and communism, they struggled to stay alive. In like manner, my parents also lived through a time of communism. My parents and grandparents later in their lives came to America as legal immigrants and were pleased to start their new lives in a country of freedom. My father took classes to learn English, so he can start working as a welder to support his family. My mother was incompetent to receive an education in America because of her lack of the English language, and having to stay at home mom to raise her children. An addition to my parents’ hard work, as a family, we fought for my brother’s life that was battling brain cancer. My father worked long hours and worked very hard to support his family and spend many hours at the hospital with my sick brother. Watching my parents struggling, gave me a great desire to be different, and pursue a career that was right for me, so one day I can support my future family. My mother has been my greatest encouragement in getting an education; she always tells me that she wants a better life for me. She says that her life wa... ... middle of paper ... ...e measure that I would take to get me closer to my degree is to live on campus. If I had enough finances, I would not work so many jobs. Also driving from such a distance takes a lot of time and scheduling. If I lived on campus, I would take more classes to finish quicker. Like I have mentioned earlier, education is very important to be and I will pursue my dream career with whatever it takes. In Conclusion, thank you for finding the time to learn more about me and my family, my financial struggles and what I wish to do to change this circumstance to finish college sooner. My past education was not easy, but I set a goal to reach an Associate’s degree, and I got there, now I’m setting g a goal to reach to a Bachelor’s degree, and I will get there. With the help of scholarships, I believe I can overcome the challenges I face that hinder me to complete my education.
