Education is man’s most valuable possession: it is the concept through which one’s love for learning stems, and the equipment used to pave an individual’s path to success. Although easily influenced by the opinions of others, education is one of the few concepts that neither internal nor external stress can strip from our being. The future of our society lies in the hands of our educators; the values and morals instilled by such figures govern the actions of the earth’s people.

The failure of our education system is demonstrated by the fact that students are sacrificing their integrity for a handful of points on an assessment. Despite the efforts of honor codes, scholars have become numb to their purpose; they break such a promise of honesty to themselves, their teachers, and their peers without second thought. America’s children have lost the value of trust, compromising invaluable relationships with excuses regarding societal pressure and their excessive workloads. We cannot let such actions continue; if educators continue to tolerate cheating, our world may transition into one socially, economically, and politically operated by dishonest individuals. My high school is ranked among the top one thousand in the nation, and its strong community support provides students with the resources needed to guide each and every child towards a path of success. Unfortunately, many American students, often in urban or economically insecure areas, lack access to the resources needed to be successful in the quantitatively driven society of the present. Many of these underprivileged scholars rely on their individual success to break from the chains of their socioeconomic class. Is it truly feasible for children living in poverty, those whose lives may depend on a successful future, to thrive as students of modern public schools when even the most privileged students are struggling to succeed?
I believe that all children should experience an undying, blooming love for learning throughout the entirety of their public education regardless of financial, geographical, social, or intellectual circumstances. Public education reform is important to me because I am an advocate for possibility. Every student has the potential to achieve his or her dreams of succeeding; perhaps we, as adults, need to use our voices to recover those that our children have lost in their fight against today’s failing public education
