Early Jazz and How it Affects Music Today

Jazz has been a style of music for about a century. It is one of the only types of music that has changed with the times. It has created so many subgenres with itself, like Funk Rock, Swing, Bebop and many others. Many schools even have a Jazz band for the students. That is just one-way how Jazz music effects music today. There are also many other ways that Jazz has affected music today, like without it, African-Americans would not have the same rights as whites, because Jazz was one of the things that helped with the Harlem Renaissance, and the Harlem Renaissance is what started the pathway to civil rights for African-Americans. With so many different styles and artists, Jazz has survived to today, since the early twentieth century, and has become a popular style of music. Jazz first started in the early twentieth century, during that time, live music was still the main for of entertainment. Historians believe that the birthplace of Jazz music win in New Orleans, Louisiana. It started in New Orleans because there was all kinds of music there. The music that was especially prominent there was Ragtime, from Missouri, and The Blues, from Mississippi (Tyle, np). Just before World War I, the Creole band toured around the country as part of a vaudeville company. This introduced Jazz to many parts of the country. Even though, the Creole band was one of the first Jazz bands to make a record, it wasn’t until 1917, when the original Dixieland Jazz band would lay down the first example of New Orleans style Jazz. Another musician is Louis Armstrong, and he was one of the best Jazz musicians of his time. He preferred doing improvisation, and he had some of the best improvisations that there ever was (“History of Jazz”, np). Because of all of these reasons, Jazz has made it all the way to today, and is still a well known type of music. Without Jazz, the music industry and the lives of many would be completely different.
