The one parental influence that has received the most recognition and results on the topic of sex and its major possible risks is parent-teen (adolescents) communication (Wilson & Donenberg 1). But it’s not just communication that needs to take place between adolescents and their parents. It’s very prevalent that that communication has to be of quality. It is important that the communication and dialogue be full of respect, receptiveness, openness, and comfortable. If the talks on the topic of sex do not include these factors there might as well not be a dialogue on the topic to begin with. Since the only way for the communication to be affective it has to be delivered and received correctly (Wilson & Donenberg 1). The more the communication includes respect, receptiveness, openness, and comfortable the more of a chance for less sexually exploring among the teen and the less likeliness of the teen to participate in risky sexual behavior (Wilson & Donenberg 1). Other very vital attributes that should be included into the parent teen communication are; friendliness, openness with less judgment, needs to be impression leaving, prohibitive, attentiveness, and contentious (Wilson & Donenberg 1). Drawing upon the research it is concluded that it is not just the communication that needs to take place but it’s the how it is all communicated. Parents have an important role as the guardant and care takes of other lives beyond themselves and that’s their child (Wilson & Donenberg 1). It is their role or job to be there for their children by guiding them and teaching them from passed experiences and society in order for them to be set out into the world with the skills and knowledge to be able to tackle any situation that is thrown at them (Wilson & Donenberg
