Can you remember the last dream you had? Maybe you could fly or were falling down an endless dark tunnel or swimming with dolphins in the ocean. Perhaps you were awakened by a horrific dream in the middle of the night. If any of you are like me you experience vivid dreams. But for those of you who don’t supposedly dream have you ever considered the brain cells that are firing around your brain to produce extremely vivid reads or downright bone rattling dreams that take place in REM sleep. Some people may think that dreams are absolutely useless and is not significant to anything in our lives, but others may disagree and believe that dreams have a lot to do. For a while now, people have looked at their dreams as an omens and insights into their personal psyches. According to Lee Ann Obringer “many think dreams are full of symbolic messages that may not be clear to us on the surface.” (http://science.howstuffworks.com/life/inside-the-mind/human-brain/dream7.htm) It all goes down to how you interoperate it and how it affects your real life. My main question is there a correlation of what happens in our dream and what happens in our daily lives? In order to understand what happens in our dream, we need to explore how and why we dream in the first place.

When you sleep in the night, you typically sleep in 90 to 110 minute where you cycle in and out of the four stages of sleep. First you start off with NREM 1. The first stage is when you feel as you are beginning to fall asleep. Might have hallucinations. They have been reports of people being abducted by aliens, floating of into sleep or being pinned to the bed. The second stage of sleep is the NREM 2 where we spend most of our night in is when our brains releases burst of rapid rhyt...

...o much. If you do it would be like trying to catch your own shadow, or chase the wind. You don’t go after those kinds of things, you just let it be, just like our dreams.

In the end, you can see, a lot happens in your body while you sleep and when you dream. When you get your ZZZs, you cycle between REM and non-REM sleep. The type of dream you have may depend on which stage of sleep you are in and the actions throughout your dream. You should also keep in mind that when you are asleep you may not know that in REM sleep your eyes are moving rapidly. The next time you get very, very sleepy know that sleep isn’t the only action that’s going on in your body, dreams are our vivid eye openers that let us imagine whatever we are capable to conjure up. Dreams are our inner most wants, needs and fears that we see in side our sleep every night whether you remember or not.
