Would you believe me if I told you that I know of someone who read his own eulogy, two months before he died and that at his funeral once again people listened to him give his own eulogy.
Dr. Martin Luther king was a third generation Baptist pastor and leader of the civil
Rights movement which began in 1950 and continue through the 1960. Dr. King movement consisted of going from state to state demonstrating in a peaceful and non-violent manner. He and his followers purpose was to attain freedom of equality for all whom discrimination was a challenge they faced on a daily basis. And why did Dr. King referred to himself as a drum major for different causes. A drum major is the leader of the marching band during rehearsals and in performance. His/her job is to carry-out the instructions of the band director and other instructional staff regarding what needs to be done with the band. Rick Wilson (2008) Dr. King wanted to be remembered as a Drum Major for Justice. He implored his congregation to remember his attempts to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and comfort prisoners. ‘‘Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice,’’ King intoned. ‘‘Say that I was a drum major for peace. Martin Luther King was a drum major for justice, for peace, for freedom of equality. Many believe that leaders are made, I disagree Dr. King was born a leader, and he used his leadership skills and abilities and power to accomplish great things, even though he was considered a controversial leader as well. How will you use whatever power you acquire? Will you make a difference or will you just conform. “Let us look calmly and honestly at ourselves, and we will discover that we too have those same basic desires for recognition, for importance… We all want to be important, to surpass others, to achieve distinction, to lead the parade… It’s a good instinct if you don’t distort it and pervert it.
