First, I believe that parents play an important role in preventing the obesity epidemic by managing daily nutrition of their children. According to a report released in 2012 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), childhood obesity has more than double in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years. While most people pay too much attention to the symptoms, they forget to monitor the causes. Long working hours and work related stress are not the excuse for putting the children’s health at risk. There are several solutions parents should work on in order to provide their children healthy food. I strongly agree with Balko’s statement because the healthier your food choice is, the better health you will get. To sum up, the individual eaters are able to improve their health condition by removing the fast food from their daily menu and start taking exercise on a regular basis.
In conclusion, rather than relying on others to fix our health matters, family, schools and each individual should take responsibility. I believe the better we take care of our health, the less burden we put on government and society. In other words, an individual can make a great contribution to public starting with their own diet. As a parent, I would say to my kids “let’s go for a 30 minute-walk and treat ourselves with a hot beef pho with a lot of beansprouts”.
