Don Quixote is a Spanish novel written by the Miguel de Cervantes. This novel contains two volumes, the first one was written in 1605 and right away become on of the most famous books at that time period. The second value of the book written in 1615 and also become popular very quickly. During that period of time in the Spain was written more than 120 chivalric novels. All of the chivalric novels were very similar and had exactly the same structure and the idea. All of them were about knights and their adventures and good thing that they did for the name of their beautiful lady. Cervantes didn’t like that all books were the same and he decided to stop it and created a parody to the chivalric novels. Through this book he wanted people to get back to the time that they were living in and get rid of the chivalric novels. Don Quixote truly filled with humanistic ideal of chivalry, but it is completely separated him from the reality. The first adventure of Don Quixote looks very comical, especially when he was fighting with the windmills, he was seeing in them the giants. This battle with windmills seemed to him as the greatest battle of good and evil. In all, he sees the intrigues of the evil wizard,which he must necessarily win to „erase bad seed from the face of the earth.” And even when it hits , the wing of the mill, and he falls injured, he does not see the reality. The second part of the novel begins by Don Quixote expressing his frustrations with the author who published a fake sequel to the second part of his narrative. Don Quixote claims he does not want to malign the dishonest author, Avellaneda. However, Quixote is contradicting himself because he goes on ranting about how this counterfeit author should “hide his name and conceal his birthplace, as if he had committed some terrible act of treason against the crown” (Cervantes 456). Don Quixote then tells an anecdote about a madman who represents the deceptive author, effectively conveying his frustration with the plagiarist. However, one wonders why Cervantes included the tale of Avellaneda in his novel. Was it to belittle the deceitful author, to address his literary critics, or to create a metafictional world, that blurs the lines between fiction and fantasy?
When Maurice Keen set out to write a book on the components and development of chivalry, he did not know it would be “the last word on a seductive subject,” as stated by one Washington Post reviewer. Instead, Keen was merely satisfying a curiosity that derived from a childhood fascination of stories filled with “knights in shining armour.” This juvenile captivation was then transformed into a serious scholarly interest by Keen’s teachers, the product of which is a work based upon literary, artifactual, and academic evidence. Keen’s Chivalry strives to prove that chivalry existed not as a fantastical distraction, as erroneously portrayed by romances, but instead as an integral and functional feature of medieval politics, religion, and society. The thirteen chapters use an exposition format to quietly champion Keen’s opinion of chivalry as being an element of an essentially secular code of “honour” derived from military practices.
Don Quixote is considered as the first modern novel and one of the most important modernist elements available in the novel is the exploration of characters’ inner worlds, especially of Don Quixote’s. Through inner exploration of the main character, the readers observe that the real and the illusionary are interoperable within Don Quixote’s perceptions of the outside world. In that sense, a post-modern concept which suggests that truth is multifaceted and it’s a creation of mind emerges in the novel. In postmodernist sense, the notion of truth still exists, however it is no longer a problematic issue and assumed to be self-evident and self-justifying as Hutcheon argues (34). Similarly, the notion of truth is there throughout Don Quixote, but it is taken beyond everyday perceptions of the real world. It represents what Erasmus claims in In Praise of Folly: “The reality of things depends solely on opinion. Everything in life is so diverse, so opposed, so obscure, that we cannot be assured of any truth” (as cited in Fuentes, viii). Dissolution of boundaries between truth and untruth, leads to the elimination of an absolute truth and that is reflected as a postmodernist theme in Don Quixote.

Along with symbolism, Capote includes flashbacks to describe Smith’s character. For example, in Smith’s father’s letter, Smith reads, “Her drinkin and stepin out, living with a young man. I contested the divorce and was granted full custody of the children. I took Perry to my home to live with me. The other children were put in homes as I could not manage to take them all in my home” (127). Growing up, Smith had a mother that was drinking all the time leading to a divorce in the family with Smith’s father having custody of the children. Although Smith may have stayed with his father unlike the rest of his siblings, the divorce may had a lasting impact on Smith’s life. In addition when Smith has a flashback, he reflects, “Like I could play a harmonica first time I picked one up. Guitar, too. I had this great natural musical ability. Which Dad didn't recognize. Or care about. I liked to read, too. Improve my vocabulary. Make up songs. And I could draw. But I never got any encouragement - from him or anybody else” (133). According to this description, Smith seems to be very smart and a hardworking person that wanted to be successful in life. Though, because he had no motivation to continue because no one paid attention to his work. Conclusively, throughout Don Quixote, Miguel Cervantes explores the transformation of reality. By doing this, he critiques and reflects conventional societal literary norms. In three distinct scenes, Don Quixote or his partner, Sancho, transform reality. Often they are met with other’s discontent. It is through the innkeeper scene, the windmill scene, the Benedictine friar scene, and Quixote’s deathbed scene that Cervantes contemplates revolutionary philosophies and literary techniques. The theme of reality transformation does not even stop there. Sometimes the transformations of reality scenes act as a mimetic devices. Ultimately, Miguel Cervantes use of transformative scenes acts as a creative backdrop for deeper observations and critiques on seventeenth-century Spanish society.

Second, Don Quijote fights two other knights in the movie. He wins the first fight and then loses the second fight. In the book, there was no fight with any knight. However, although this simple premise has survived since the novel's inception, and spawned such universally known concepts or images as quixotic idealism and charging headlong at a group of "giants" which are actually windmills, Cervantes' motivation for writing Don Quixote remains an untold story. Looking at late fifteenth- and early sixteenth-century Spain from the viewpoint of a Renaissance man, Cervantes came to dislike many aspects of the age in which he lived, and decided to satirize what he saw as its failings; however, throughout the writing of what would become his most famous work, Cervantes was torn by a philosophical conflict which pervaded the Renaissance and its intellectuals--the clash of faith and reason.
