On June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to marry. Should gay marriages be legal? Clearly we as a nation are undecided on this issue. Gay rights groups are fighting for rights while religious groups are fighting against gay marriage. I do NOT believe it is fair to discriminate against gays for being together. America is a free country and people should be able to be in a relationship with whomever they desire. Gay marriage is only legal in a few states. In some of these states, the uniting of two gays is called a civil union or domestic partnership. I do not think it is right to ruin the holy sacrament of marriage. Although I do not promote gay marriage or civil unions, I do believe a domestic partnership is the union that is most fitting and would make the gay society more productive.
There are only few states in the United States that allow gay marriage which include Vermont, Iowa, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Massachusetts legislators decided there was no good state constitutional reason that should prevent gay marriage. Although gay marriage is legal now, Massachusetts may change the constitution’s laws or wording at anytime to prohibit gay marriage. Marriage is traditionally between a woman and man. It is important we uphold the tradition in America. Although marriage would make gays feel less alienated, many religious followers would be upset if we changed marriage laws. Gays who gain the same benefits from marriage would be a more productive part of society for two reasons: the benefits from marriage and the pursuit of happiness obtained from the right of gay marriage. ...guidelines and how the laws are worded. With more domestic partnerships there would likely be less opposition. With less opposition, gays could hope for federal legislation for gays being joined. I believe domestic partnerships are the solution for all states at this day and age.
