Does Computers and the Internet Help Students Learn?

With new up and coming technology entering the school system a question rises, do students actually learn better from computers and the internet? This debate can go either way if the arguer uses certain examples, however when looking at the evidence technology helps students learn more than before without access to computers. This statement can BE backed by looking at schools that don’t have internet access or the ones that run completely behind a computer screen. Examine test scores of different schools, looking at grades, student participation, and passing rate of schools. Also looking at online schools as well, how do they compare to public schools with and without internet access. When looking at all this information one can determine that computers and internet access helps students learn better and faster.

1. Schools without internet access- Rural schools don’t usually have internet access causing a barrier for learning. The students in these schools can’t get the same access to information that the schools with internet capability can get. The lack of funding, and location causes rural schools to get left behind in their learning. According to Standford.edu ‘six percent don’t have access to internet, and thirty percent don’t sign up for internet access. If students don’t have internet access the completing homework does not always happen, unless students come in early or stay after to use the schools or library computer and internet access (web.Standford.edu).’ so not only do students not have internet leaving them behind form other schools, but also they fall behind in class from the lack of homework that they complete.
