“A shamed of shabby ideas and shaddy philophies. It would be a sad situation if the wrapper were better that the meat wrapped inside it” (Quotations about clothing).
What styles should a man be wearing, how the man should wear it, and does his wardrobe carry sex appeal. Many men get self confidence from the clothing that they acquire. “Self confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and feeling scared out of your wits” (10 ways to instantly build self confidence). Men on average get a boost when they look good. It gives them a sense of pride, accomplishment, self-portrait, and discontentment. If person was to identify a well-dressed man, they would notice that he walks, and carries himself in a distinguished way. “When you don’t look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people” (10 ways to instantly build self confidence). Appearance is measured by three determining factors: style, motives, and confidence.
Style, being that because a man thinks he looks great, the wardrobe in which he has chosen may not justify the trends set before him. For example, consider a man bright purple suit, with snake skin dress shoes; even though the man is well dressed, the style that he has chosen is of one who is trying to hard to make an impression. Motives, being the determining factors, shows why the man has chosen to wear this particular material. Example, if a man enters a tuxedo shop he is either getting ready for prom, or for a wedding. This is the reason for including motives as a determining factor. Confidence is essential to any mans appearance. With confidence comes correctness of posture, a feeling of being a man, and a great deal of poise. “By practicing good posture, you’ll automatically...

Appearance is based on a perception, formed by the human brain. Whether that perception is arguable or not, the fact still remains that men will be judged on how they look. And by the determination of how that man looks, determines how far that man will go in life. “Funny that a pair of really nice shoes makes us feel good in our heads- at the extreme opposite end of our bodies” (Quotations about clothing).

on a scale from 1 to 3, the importance men gave to good looks rose from 1.50 to 2.11. But for women, the importance of good looks in men rose from 0.94 to 1.67. In other words, women in 1989 considered a man look’s more important than men considered women’s looks 50 years earlier
First, the conflict in the story, “The Jacket” by Gary Soto supports the overall theme. The kid in the story has gotten a new jacket, he thinks it is ugly, but he knows he is stuck with it. Gary Soto explains the boy “wanted to cry because it was so ugly and so big that [he] knew [he’d] have to wear it a long time.” This shows how insecure he was of his jacket when he needed to be confident in himself. The way he looks shouldn’t determine his personality. This proves how needed it is to be confident in oneself. Also the boy says, “Everybody saw me. Although they didn’t say it out loud ‘ Man, that’s ugly,’ I heard a buzz-buzz of gossip and even laughter that I knew was meant for me.” People were judging him by how he looked when they hadn’t even got to know him. They weren’t looking at his characteristics they were looking at how he looked.
In the present more and more men are doing their best to look great any moment of the day. The principle of “looking good” means for many men investing time and
According to the article by Dave Barry, "The Ugly Truth about Beauty", the article compares between men and women. Barry illustrate that men think of themselves as average looking unlike women they always think that they are not good enough. Barry think contributes to this difference is that women when they were young they used to play with a Barbie which make them feel that they have to be perfect just like here and that generate low self-self-esteem. On the other hand men used to play by their action figures. Which they are not a good looker. In this article Barry offer advice for both gender. That women must have self-confidence and men should care about their look just a little more. I am a women and I know that we are some times be obsessed
... if we give appearance and look the importance they do not deserve. In today’s world, children kill themselves, celebrities use drugs, people fake personality because they think that they don’t fit the standard and they don’t want to be judged and view based on the way they look and who they are. We are all different so to enjoy each other differences and learn from one another, we should take away those imaginary standards and live by each other free and confident.
The early nineteenth century which was in the Regency Era consisted of harsh judgments towards what was believed to be a “wealthy” look and what was considered to be “proper.” In Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, the clothing is more than just a fashion statement, it determines how they are perceived and their overall rank and social class in society. Therefore, fashion represents the importance of self appearance during that time.
...ry attractive to the opposite sex and thus it should not be revealed as if is has no value. One should look at a person’s beauty from the inside, the heart, not only from the outside. One should be liked and judged not by what they chose to wear but by their personality.
Physical appearance has a vigorous effect on how people are perceived by others. Subsequently, the perception that is created through physical and social appearance correlates to a human being’s psychological state, as well as their performance level. The notion that clothing can have an impact on how a person thinks, feels and performs, arises the need to further inquire whether or not clothing articles have an effect on a human being’s cognition process, particularly that of a university student. Motivation, self-perception and academic competence are the real world problems that this research will be addressing. Thus, the research question measured and observed during this experimentation, will be based on the concept of physical appearance and it’s effect on academic performance in undergraduate university students.
Some may pose the argument that the wearing of expensive clothes increases a person’s self-esteem. Self-esteem is defined as a person's overall sense of self-worth or personal value. A person’s self-esteem should not be based on something as superficial as what he/she wears to school. A person may be able to purchase these expensive items now, but what happens if he/she no longer has the money to afford such items? Also, if people base their self-esteem on the clothes that they wear, then they will judge others on what they wear rather than their personal qualities and the content of their character. It is important for people to base their confidence on something less superficial than clothes. For example, a person could base their self-esteem on his/her education or his/her value to morals because those are things that will never be taken away from them. Ultimately, a person building self-esteem based on the clothes that he/she wears is not smart for that person.
Something that becomes very apparent when studying the topic of fashion is that clothes and style are related to so much more than merely an individual’s appearance. For thousands of years, fashion and style have been primary indicators about a person’s social status, sexuality, wealth, individuality, and overall personality attributes. Deep rooted in all of us lies an inescapable process of perceiving who an individual is based on what our eyes view. Although this process may be labeled as "superficial," it is no doubt a mechanism that exists, particularly when there is limited additional "information" about someone to go on.
Many brands do what they can in order to attract customers. An example to this would be like the clothing stores Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister, which only hire people who they consider attractive to represent their store. It is a requirement to maintain this rule in order to increase the number of customers coming in and the number of sales that are being done. People are being discriminated against not being “good looking” enough to be hired, which is morally wrong.
Susan Bordo states in her article “Never Just Pictures”, that children grow up knowing that they can never be thin enough. They are thought that being fat is the worst thing ever. The ones responsible for this are the media, celebrities, models, and fashion designers. All of these factors play a big role on the development of the standard and how people view themselves. Everyone at one dreams about being the best they can in any aspect. But to achieve that most believe that one of the big factors is outer beauty. So people look at celebrities and fashion designers, and believe that to be accepted they have to look like them. That’s when they take drastic measures to change their appearance because they’ve been influenced by the Medias idea of “beautiful.” This feeling mostly happens in women but in recent years the gender gap has become smaller. Now men also feel the need to look good because of the media. On the TV, instead of having infomercials ...
Our physical appearance counts all the time. It reflects who we are, how we carry ourselves, and how we represent the company we work for. Cygnus ‘The Legend’ said that appearance is not everything but everything is begun from appearance. Good appearance will be the good beginning. If our appearance is neat, clean, match, and fashionable with our style; we will be lucky, we have friends in everywhere, can do cooperation well, easy to get job, be successful person and also get achievement. If that all happen with us, we will look good by most people in around us. “Do not judge the book by its cover”. This is a very famous quote. But is really personal appearance not essential? (Elmer, n.d.).
