Diversity in terms of culture entails differences in the human society or practices which can be limited to a specific region or throughout the world. The culture can be viewed as a set of models that set principles of what acceptable behavior is in a society (Kelley & Fitzsimons, 2000). Many different societies emerged around the world and had obvious differences in terms of culture among them with regards to dressing, traditions and race. Irrespective of one’s culture, there is always a majority and a minority who are always many but in small numbers.
There are always basic rules of social interaction in every culture in terms of space distance between persons, extent to which body language can be displayed publicly, eye contact among others. Cultural diversity makes a country more interesting as there are many options to explore from in terms of food, language, dressing among others. It also offers competition between countries regionally and globally, thus can make a country better and stronger in the global economy (Ng & Metz, 2015). In trying to create friendship with people from different cultures, one has to make a decision that is sound (Ng & Metz, 2015).This is because of the many societal forces that may try to divide us from others with regards to our different background. There is normally a tendency of people to isolate each other based on their financial, ethnic or religious groups and therefore if we want to do things differently we ought to take active measures to change this perception.
The connection we have with different people gives meaning to the kind of life we live and we can aspire to make a change in our societies by taking care of one another (Puccetti, 2012). The ultimate key in making substantial changes in our societies can be through creating relations with people from different backgrounds.
