When you look around at work everyone around you is different. But just because everyone isn’t alike at work doesn’t necessary mean it’s a bad thing. Diversity in the workplace includes race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, ability, and sexual orientation (Swarthout). So what role does diversity actually play in the workforce field and what can you learn from it? Workforce diversity is a major advantage to businesses for competitive reasons as well as gaining knowledge from one another.

For one example, say you have a business that has multi-age groups ranging from young to old. By bringing the different age groups together in the business it allows work to be more creative and productive. Being creative meaning, throwing a bunch of ideas into one pot and making one great big decision. Allowing employees to be more creative helps them work together to solve solutions. Productive meaning, when you have all these ideas coming together the productivity works better. Different age groups bring in different ideas and different roles in which makes a better workforce.
