In order for diversity and inclusion to happen in today’s work environment, individuals want to be themselves at work. If they are allowed to be themselves, they will engage fully within the team, or in assigned work. The environment can significantly impact an individual’s involvement in the organization. This will result in low staff morale, increased absenteeism, and decreased productivity along with retention difficulties. An educational approach can help negate many fears that people have when it comes to addressing diversity. It is important to learn about the cultural backgrounds, lives and interests of employees outside of the workplace. Both managers and employees fear that they may say the wrong thing which can lead to being perceived as discriminatory. Employees need to know that while there are standards and expectations for appropriate behavior in the workplace, a focus on diversity is not about being perfect. Diversity and inclusion is best nurtured in an open workplace where mistakes can be used for learning and not embarrassing or shaming individuals. Building relationships through increased understanding and trust helps to foster inclusion. The employer can include opportunities for staff to interact in settings outside of work so that employees feel more comfortable. They can ensure all employees have the opportunity to take part in the decision making and planning for social activities. It is always good practice and not to assume that everyone is heterosexual. It is also helpful when speaking with the employees to practice speaking in a normal tone.

Conclusion
Men and women are created equal and this must fact must be carried over into the work environment to help ensure the organizations success. An employee must remain true to themselves as well as their organization. Continuing to do hard work and being persistent will increase your chances at being effective in the culturally diverse world we live in. Overall, we must keep our eye on Christ and know the reason we are working while keeping diversity and inclusion as a major priority in our life. If this is done we will be able to weather any storm that comes our way in our work environment or in our daily life.
