The impact of the ideologies of Foucault, Derrida, Gayatri Spivak and Edward Said and the expansion of knowledge helped in the blossoming of Dalit literature in all languages. In its broader sense, the term ‘Dalit’ means those who are crushed and downtrodden. The position of Dalit literature can be graphically understood in terms of the paradigms such as the colonizer/colonized, oppressor/oppressed, victimizer/victimized, dominant/dominated and subject/subjugated. Dalit Literature is simultaneously universal, global and local because it translates a distinct local Dalit culture for global exposure and recognition. It is socio-historically grounded in the poetics of pain, poetics of suffering and also in the poetics of what is called oppositional aesthetics.
