Discuss the American Revolution. Be sure to describe British and American military strategies, list major turning points of the war, the importance of French assistance and the significance of the Treaty of Paris that ended the war. The American Revolution was battled between 1775 and 1783. The revolution ended in colonial unhappiness with the British. During this time, American armies were vulnerable because of their lack of resources and supplies. But they still managed to have several triumphs, which led to their alliance with the French. After the American victory at the Battle of Yorktown, the war was resolved with the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The Revolutionary War started when Paul Revere made his famous ride to warn the colonists that the "British are coming,” April 18, 1775. The British Army was stationed in Boston and word was, they were going to attempt an attack at the leaders of the Sons of Liberty. This ride is important because it warned the colonists and the armed forces In June 1776, the Continental Congress appointed five leaders, the Committee of Five, to write a document explaining why they were declaring their independence. The five members were Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston, Roger Sherman, and Thomas Jefferson. The men decided that Jefferson should write the first draft. The Committee of Five presented the first draft, written by Thomas Jefferson, to Congress. Not everyone approved at the attempt to declare independence. Some voted no while others voted yes. But on July 4, 1776, 239 years ago, the Congress officially adopted the final version of the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence achieved more than just colonial freedom. It explained why they wanted their freedom and that the colonies had rights they should fight

On May 15 Congress published a preamble which explained that the Americans planned to be removed from the rule of England.
