Corrective discipline
Teachers use this discipline when a small intervention failed to motivate students. In this discipline teachers implement strategies to stop misbehaviour when it has already occurred and redirect behaviour into positive way (Mclnerney & Mclnerney, 2002, p. 250).
Rogers’ positive behaviour leadership model is very good example for practical approach to classroom management. Roger stated that all disciplinary practice should to empower students to become responsible for their own behaviour. Respect the rights of others, be safe, and give choices about consequences and encouragement for student self-discipline. Build positive relationship (Lyons, et al., 2003, p. 23).
Some strategies teacher can use to correct students misbehaviour such as:

• Very clear instructions to the students.
• Peer reinforcement (Schools world. tv, 2016). In regards to Glasser’s theory, he recommended a technique called reality therapy. In this approach, the teacher focuses on helping the student evaluate their behaviour and make some effort to improve it. Teacher uses direct question instead of blaming the student. In addition he recommended the teacher to ask student three question; what are you doing? Is it against the rules? What are going to do?
Glasser also uses the isolation method, asks the student to set in a separate desk or in the corner of the classroom (Mclnerney & Mclnerney, 2002, p. 267).
Levin and Nolan in their book (what every teacher should know about classroom management), they stated some useful strategies can use in corrective discipline for example:
• Changing the pace of classroom activities.
• Interest boosting of a student who shows signs off-task.
• Planned ignoring: if you ignore student misbehaviour, it will decrease and then disappear.
• Signal interference: non verbal communication (hands up, eye contact, head shaking, and etc).

After completing the “Cooperative Discipline” course through the Regional Training Center, I am planning on revising my behavioral management techniques to follow the cooperative discipline model in my eighth grade English classroom. The cooperative discipline, or the hands-joined style, is a more appropriate approach to managing behaviors in my classroom than the hands-off or hands-on styles. With the hands-off style, there is too much freedom and not enough structure in the classroom, and with the hands-on style, defiant students are likely to rebel against the teacher’s strict rules. However, with the hands-joined style, “students are included in the decision-making process and therefore are strongly influenced to develop responsibility and choose cooperative behavior” (Albert, 2012). When students are provided with clear expectations but are still part of the decision-making process, they are more likely to behave appropriately in the classroom.

Teachers are required to facilitate learning and assist students in reaching their full potential. This is accomplished by teachers clearly and confidently articulating class expectations and teaching student’s what behavior is “acceptable and unacceptable” (Marsh 2010 p233). Cooperative behavior is encouraged by “incentives and recognition” (Lyons et al., 2014) whilst unruly behaviour is managed with a “hierarchy of sanctions” (Lyons et al., 2014). This paper aims to highlight an incident in theatre where environmental pressure has the tendency to lead to human error thereby compromising the patient’s safety. To reflect and critically analyse the situation, human factors, theories, guidelines and national policies that govern a theatre environment so as to improve the practice, raise awareness and prevent adverse event thereby improving patient safety in theatres.
Discipline is important in maintaining a positive classroom environment and influencing a child’s development. During my field experience at S.H. Elementary, I have observed Mrs. Branson using various techniques to reinforce positive behavior in her 3rd grade classroom. Mrs. Branson’s teachers 3rd grade in a charter school located in the south suburbs of Minneapolis. Her class consist of 23 diverse student learners from various racial, ethical, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Each student acquires individual wants and needs, and exhibits a range of behaviors. Mrs. Branson practices operant conditioning techniques to acquire the good behavior she wants and needs from her students.
The intention of this written essay is to demonstrate an understanding of my views on reflection and the issues surrounding reflective practice. It is based on nursing skills that I used during my practice placement, most importantly reflecting on the professional value of privacy and dignity.
Classroom management is a necessary component for teachers to appreciate and apply to positively manage and adjust behavior within the learning environment. It is important that teachers develop a sound perceptive of significant theories that will result in enhanced teaching and practices within the class (Lyons, Ford & Slee, 2014). Goal Centred Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Theory and Assertive Discipline Theory are three prominent management theories that will endure analysis. Therefore, consolidating the main elements that underpin the theories will assist in developing positive practices of classroom management.
As a teacher managing problem behavior in your classroom can be one of the most challenging tasks. Behavior problems can range from disruption of lessons to acts of violence against fellow students and teachers. Children’s emotional setbacks and life challenges can also contribute to behavior issues at school. A study done by the Justice Center and the Public Policy Research Institute found that six out of ten students suffered from an “emotional disturbance” and were expelled or suspended between seventh and twelfth grade (Firke, 2011). This same study showed that discipline varied greatly between schools. This report also revealed the urgent need for a more thoughtful technique in school discipline policies. In many cases teachers have exhausted their classroom management strategies without success. Behavior Modification is aimed at improving school and classroom behavior, and can give teachers additional tools to help them to deal proactively and effectively with behaviors that are disruptive to students and teachers in the classroom. When children are disruptive in the classroom it can cause a lot of problems for their classmates and their teacher. Yet, in the long run, it's the disruptive child themselves who is most impacted, on both a social and educational level (Epstein, Atkins, Cullinan, Kutash, & Weaver, 2008). Behavior modification techniques should be used in school, to change the negative behaviors, and increase the positive behaviors seen in these children.

In the 21st century, teachers experience many behavioral issues with students in the classroom and face challenges that are very difficult to resolve. School districts have different expectations about how students must behave during school and teachers have their own expectations about how students must behave in their classroom. Every educator has different classroom expectations and students must follow specific standards; therefore, the responsibility of the teacher is to discuss the standards with all students and make sure those expectations are clear. Effective classroom management procedures contribute to an environment that enhance learning and reduce discipline problems (Edwards, 2004). The goal of discipline is to help students learn to control their own behavior. Effective teachers apply various disciplinary techniques that help in curtailing misbehavior and promote self-discipline in students (Charles, 1996). Effective discipline is emotionally disconnected from student actions (Henley, Ramsey and Algozzine, 1999). According to Dreikurs, discipline is a process in which students learn to impose reasonable limits on themselves (Charles, 1996).
Normal or "good" behavior, usually determined by whether it is socially, culturally and developmentally appropriate. Misbehavior is any improper behavior. Teaching self-control skills is one of the most important things that teachers can do for students because these are the most important skills for success later in life. There are many different underlying causes of misbehavior, but a well-managed classroom has consequences in place to avoid disruption of learning time. Children try to please the teacher, with rules in place, and often reinforced, students will rise to the expectations of the class and their peers. This creates the ideal learning environment for all students.

One of the ultimate trials that educators face currently is giving students with behavioral disorders and inappropriate behaviors, tools that will help them function self-sufficiently in a suitable manner. Teachers are facing classrooms where students parade various academic and behavioral characteristics; therefore, teacher are constantly looking for effective instructional strategies and classroom management skills. Classroom teachers tend to be more appealed to flexible, tranquil to implement and inexpensive teaching strategies and techniques that keep students energetically involved.
As stated earlier, I believe Classroom Management is the key to how learning can take place and students can feel safe participating. I hope to create an environment that is conducive to learning and involves all my students. As discussed throughout this paper we build our classroom management plans based on our past experiences, our knowledge, our professional learning and our very own personal reflection. The importance of our beliefs, values and our philosophy play a major role in our planning. I, personally have a strong desire to support students who are often labelled ‘troubled’ and ‘the naughty child’, I believe there are reasons behind why students misbehave and strive to do my best as an educator to engage students through positive reinforcements as discussed and continue to put in place preventive practices.
