Many companies wants us to believe that the newest technology gadgets and gizmos will make us happier, but will they? With the advent of modern technology the world is provided with conveniences intended to make life easier. However, with careful scrutiny one can assess that these expedient products and services actually pose new problems. This insight makes clear that conveniences aren’t so beneficial after all. We can note this elucidation in examining the disadvantages of fast-food, automatic teller machines (ATM), and dishwashers. The convenience of fast-food comes along with many drawbacks in its wake. Firstly, fast-food has a detrimental effect on health. Being high in salt, fat, and calories, makes fast-food one of the greatest contributors to obesity in America. Obesity in turn, leads to cardiovascular illnesses, high blood pressure, and disease in joints. In fact, studies show that 13% of the population living in walking distance from a fast-food restaurant has a higher risk of suffering from strokes than those further away. Aside from being unhealthy, eating at fast-food restaurants is disadvantageous financially as well. Although fast-food is considered economical for the individual, it is very expensive for families, as the larger the group, the higher the price. An occasional meal at a fast-food eatery isn’t terribly costly, but frequent outings quickly rake up a large bill. However, despite this awareness, statistics prove that over 50,000,000 Americans still utilize the conveniences of fast-food restaurants, adding up to 110 billion dollars a year spent in such places. Furthermore, fast-food ultimately results in a breakdown within the fortitude of family structure. Traditionally, meal time at home was establishe... ... middle of paper ... ...leaning the dishes. Hand-washing allows one to scrub dishes more meticulously, and removes pieces of food which dishwashers don’t succeed in accomplishing. Therefore, one must re-wash the dirty dishes again, this time by hand, after they emerge from the dishwasher. This results in excessive wasted time instead of saved. Evidently, dishwashers have many unfavorable aspects, despite the benefits they are invented to provide for. To conclude, the seeming conveniences of modern technology create many disadvantages for society. We can understand this concept if we look beyond the facade of convenience of products and services invented to accommodate the current busy lifestyle, such as fast-food, ATM machines, and dishwashers. Therefore, it is important to utilize these innovations with caution in order prevent any problematic outcomes from the negativities involved.
Almost everyone has eaten fast food at some point in their lives, but not everyone realizes the negative effects some fast food can have on our nutrition. My family especially is guilty of eating unhealthy fast food meals at least once a week because of our budget and very busy schedules. In Andrea Freeman’s article entitled, “Fast Food: Oppression through Poor Nutrition,” She argues that fast food has established itself as a main source of nutrition for families that live in average neighborhoods and have low-incomes. Freeman begins the article by explaining how the number of fast food outlets is beginning to grow in poor communities because of the cheap prices and quick service these restaurants are famous for. The overabundance of fast
The more we use and/or rely on computer technology, the more risky it gets. As Neil Postman has said, technology gives us something, it will take away something, I’d like to make a very small change to that and I declare that technology gives us a few things but take away many and the most fundamental things away. And I believe that the reason why no one really speaks about the disadvantages of computer technology is because the marketing of the products will certainly affect the product launching company. I hope one day we all realize where life’s taking us and try to find a resolution even though it may be a little late. But neither does trying not hurt nor a little outcome is better than
Technology is one of the most important things in everyone’s life. Technology improves every day. in regards to today’s youth, they were born with all the new technological inventions as opposed to our parents. In “Quality Time, Redefined” by Alex Williams, published in the New York Times, the author talks about the positive and negative effects on technology. I enjoyed this reading because it related my personal day to day life. Even though some Americans acknowledge that technology is a part of their everyday life, they do not see the negative outcome of technology, they are blinded only by the positive aspects.
In today's world, technology is constantly changing from a new paperclip to an improvement in hospital machinery. Technology lets people improve the way they live so that they can preserve their own personal energy and focus on the really important factors in life. Some people focus their energy on making new innovations to improve transportation and the health of people that may save lives and some people focus on making new designs of packaging CDS. Technology is significant in everyone's life because it rapidly changes what is in the market. But, some new innovations of technology are ridiculous because they serve no purpose in helping mankind.
With the fast pace of life, people pay more attention to increasing their quality of life. Thus, Americans tend not to spend their free time cooking. One of the Founding Father of the United States, Benjamin Franklin said that “Time is money” (Brainyquote). Time has great value to Americans, so they do not want to waste it doing unimportant things. Most Americans want to use their time efficiently, which allows them to achieve desirable goals. Fast food chains offer Americans the opportunity to save time. Preparing French fries, fried chicken, and hamburgers in fast food restaurant only takes a few minutes, which satisfies people’s demands and expectations. For example, I often see some students or commuters buying breakfast at a fast-food restaurant when they are in a hurry to go to school or work. Also, when our family has a journey by car, we like to take a break at a fast-food restaurant. This not only saves our time, but it also fills our bellies. Moreover, fast food restaurants provide reasonable prices on food, which also attracts consumers. Thus, people prefer fast food. The article, “Introduction to Fast Food: At Issue” describes the problems that fast food brings to our society during the development of fast food. “In 1970, Americans spent about $6 billion on fast food; in 2014, fast food sales were projected to be more than $195 billion. According to a 2013 Gallup poll, eight in ten Americans report eating fast food at least once a month, with almost half saying they eat it at least once a week” (“Introduction to Fast Food: At Issue”). The statistics show that people really like to go to fast food restaurants. Although fast food is adapted to the demands of people’s fast-paced life style, fast-food production has a negative influence on American
Millions of American people buy fast food every day without thinking about where, how and why. The ramifications of fast food is impacting the American people both around the waist line and the community where they live at. “As the old saying goes: you are what you eat.” (Schlosser) The customer have made the choices to eat fast food or not. The industry doesn’t care about the customers; studies have shown that the fast food industry is the reason for the rise of American obesity. “Live fast and die young” (Moore); this could not be more true when looking at the impact of the fast food industry.
Near the core of American culture that dearly loves liberty, lies its love for fast food and all that it offers. The fast food industry was initially created as a moneymaking enterprise that marketed itself as a time effective source of food, but over the years it has strayed from its marketing promise to save Americans’ time. Many Americans are regulars at one, or more, of the numerous fast food restaurants in the United States, because they want to save valuable time that otherwise would be squandered in the kitchen. The time that consumers envision they save while eating at fast food restaurants is wrongly perceived; the host of health issues linked to fast food consumption eventually eats away at any time people might have saved. By eating fast food, efficiency is lost due to its unhealthy nature, not only for the copious amounts of fats and salts it contains, but also because it lacks of vital nutrients.
People very often debate whether technology is good or bad. Many people believe that technology can only cause harm to their lives and society, while many others strongly defend the technologies which have made their lives much more leisurely and enriching than it could have been several hundred years ago. In my opinion, both of these views are correct to an extent, but I also believe that what should be examined is not whether technology in its self is good or bad, but rather how we as humans use it.For decades now, television has been accused of contributing to the dissolution of the American family and the destruction of the minds of those who watch it. However, although the TV has been involved in this, the problem roots not with technology but rather the people who choose to let it run their lives. I believe this because it is parents, not TV sets, who choose to let their children sit in front of the television for hours upon hours, and it is the parents who do not intervene and replace TV time with quality family time.
The Oxford English online dictionary defines technology: as the product of such application; technological knowledge or know-how; a technological process, method, or technique. Also: machinery, equipment, etc., developed from the practical application of scientific and technical knowledge. In the space of a few decades technology as experienced incredible growth and has become a crucial part of our everyday life. Most of us use technology in every aspect of our lives whether we are at work, school, or relaxing at home in our free time. Now most of us could not imagine returning to a time in which technology was not so readily available. Most of us expect to have access to information at a moment’s notice. There are many advantages and disadvantages to our obsession with technology.
Technology has more negative effects on today’s society than positive. Due to technology in the past few decades Canine Shock Collars have been increasingly popular. Students in school pay more attention to texting than they do their classes. Violent addictive video games have made their way into American homes. Parents encourage their children to not text as much, but them to face the problem of constant communication. The Internet gives the students easier ways to cheat in school, and reinforces laziness. Internet Porn gives every bored male a chance to look at the seediest film in the comfort of his own home. Technology has taken the innocence and mystery away from the American family.
Technology is unavoidable in our modern lifestyle. You wake up, you use technology; you use technology while cooking, while eating, while driving. While you’re lying in bed before you fall asleep, you use technology, technology wakes you up in the morning. Is all the technology around you good for you, or is it harmful to your health? Was our society healthier or safer before all the advancements? So many questions and concerns about all of the technology we crave, but there are very few people who know the answers. Technology affects all parts of human life. It can create jobs, motivate people to get active, and assist people in learning, but this does not balance out that there are dangers that follow the use of technology.

It is clear that the fast food industry has changed the American culture and society, and will continue to at a rapid pace. The article Obesity in America and its children affecting the lives of millions by Becky Sorenson further proves my claim fast food is becoming a staple in the American culture. With the popularity continuing to increase, it’s having a negative impact on Americans’ and America's health, and if this increase in popularity continues, then obesity will be even more of a serious problem.
Technology has changed modern society drastically, both positively and negatively. Technology has influenced every aspect of our life, making it simpler but not necessarily better. Albert Einstein was concerned about the advancement of technology. "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction."1 Undoubtedly, what has changed the most are communication, the spread of information, and how business is practiced. Consequently, practically everyone knows how to use a computer, connect to the Internet, or use a smartphone. This is demonstrated by the way the Internet is used daily by millions of people to communicate, to sell, advertise, retrieve, and share information. Thanks to the Internet, information from anywhere in the world is at our fingertips. As a result, the advancement of technology has changed our life in many ways including; sharing of information, communication, business, education, social interaction, simplifying everyday tasks, replacing basic skills and jobs.
How did technology affect us? Did it affect us in a positive or a negative way? Technology has both positive and negative effects, it’s plainly about how people choose to use it. Throughout these years, technology has been a great advancement for our country and it helped us develop in many ways that we can’t even count.
