In 2010 Facebook generated $3.7 billion in revenue. Facebook has earned the title of being the first website to obtain 1 trillion page views in a month. Mark Zuckerberg, an undergraduate student from Harvard University, in 2004 created one of the most popular social networking in the world, Facebook. Zuckerberg used his sophomoric sense of humor “that led him to create the site as a type of "hot or not" game for Harvard students, where website visitors could compare two student photos side-by-side and let viewers decide who was "hot" and who was "not".” (Bellis). Facebook became extremely popular in Harvard, so it extended to other universities such as Stanford, Columbia, and Yale. A year later its creation Facebook became available to high-school students and a year later, in 2006, it became available to everyone with a valid email address and above the age of thirteen. As of May 2, 2013 Facebook reached 1.11 billion users in the world and it is available in seventy different languages. (Wikipedia). The United States is the country with the most Facebook users in the world with almost one hundred sixty six million users. From its creation time to present days, Facebook has significantly developed and gradually became an important elem...
One of the risks that is often seen throughout social media is cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is known as a way of deliberately using digital media to communicate false, embarrassing, or hostile information about another person (O’Keefe, Clarke-Pearson). Everyday adolescents are given the opportunity to communicate with endless amounts of people online. This opportunity not only enhances the risk of cyberbullying, but also increases the amount of people that can view the cyberbullying. The most common form is known as peer-to-peer cyberbullying. This means that the person being targeted by the act most likely knows their “bully” personally. With the peer-to-peer form being most common, it is often seen that the acts occur offline just as much as they occur online. Dr. Rebecca Mathews conducted a survey as of 2010 asking online users about their experience...

A good example of how technology has made life easier is the telephone. Mobile phones allow people to talk, text, send emails, and use the web from anywhere. Another example is social networks. They allow people to interact and stay connected with their friends and family. The author of Technolo...
Many want to believe that it is possible to stereotype which teens will partake in these activities and which will not but it is not possible. It has been recognized that many surveys used to determine where the pressure to sext comes from and how many teens are doing it does not inquire about why (Lee, 2015, p. 459). Without understanding why teens desire to participate or allow themselves to be coerced into participating in sexting there is no way to stereotype the teens that are at risk for this inappropriate behavior. Most people believe that the troubled, rebellious teens are the only ones that would sext, however that is very much false. Any teenager with a smartphone, social media account, or access to the internet can be at risk for sexting and distribution of nude

Social media is becoming the most important and influential technological advancement in our country since the internet was created in the 1960s. For the longest time people were only limited to e-mails to make communication to one another and there were no large scale social media sites available. However, the internet started taking off in the early 2000s as new generations started bringing to the table new and more advanced ideas. Facebook was invented in 2004, where people were able to connect with whoever they wanted throughout the world to communicate and be able to share anything. On their
In this day and age, many individuals simply cannot go without some sort of socialization. Specifically speaking, most participate in online social networking sites. The most popular and used one is commonly known as Facebook. Facebook was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. By 2007, Facebook had over 21 million users, adding up to 1.6 billion page views every single day. The typical user spends over twenty minutes per day on Facebook and two thirds of the users log in every day at least once. It is not questionable as to why many people have a Facebook account. Facebook is generally efficient, easy for socialization, and not difficult to manage. Most organizations are affiliated with Facebook, as “almost 22,000 organizations had Facebook directories,” as of November 2006. A year after that in 2007, Facebook was named the seventh most popular website (Ellison 1). However, with anything well known, many oppose to using Facebook and hold criticism against the popular network. There are many flaws in the website and the relationships it starts online. Facebook is risking dangerous activities, ignoring privacy laws, and demeaning healthy socialization.
Nowadays, children and adolescents spent a considerable part of their time on the internet. Media has turned out to be a very useful tool in many fields such as education, arts, science, sports, and culture. Over the recent decades, there has been a surge in the use of media by the younger generations and concern has been raised about the effect of media on children because of research reports of long term negative effects. Media use is a double edged weapon with both advantages and disadvantages. Since Internet is the easiest way now for children to use so as to watch and observe anything they want such as movies, games, news and pictures, also this useful tool is used by children for harming themselves
However when Facebook became popular and began to grow, they decided to expand it to other college campus, then communities, and now to everyone. Facebook is now a social networking company worldwide. Facebook can be used through mobile apps, and websites; it helps us connect with people, share, discover and communicate with each other around the world. Facebook was created six years ago by two young men, and now it has become the largest social network, and has reached million
The popularity of the social networking sites increased rapidly in the last decade. This is probably due to the reason that college and university students as well as teens used it extensively to get global access. These social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook have become a raging craze for everyone nowadays.
Social media has caused our generation to have a lot less social interactions. Instead of meeting someone and talking with them face to face social media has made it easier to communicate with someone from behind a further distance, behind a screen. Angela Fowler stated,
Nowadays, we are living in the “ technology world”, digital’s century, science and technology are being devolopped like a rain-storm, people try their best effect to serve for human’s infiniti demand. Internet in general and social network in particular are exceedingly funtional tools. Indeed, with over 1.3 billion active users in June,2014 ( Wikipedia), there is no suprise that Facebook has been becoming a leading social network in the world, “Facebook was not originally created to be a company. It was built to accomplish a social mission - to make the world more open and connected” – CEO of Facebook: Mark Zuckerberg (google). Facebook truthly brought many useful; however, it is still “ a double-edged sword”.
