Water Benefits Health.com stated, “Forty percent of America’s rivers are too polluted for fishing, swimming or aquatic life. Much of today’s water is dealing with water pollution. According to lenntech.com “Water pollution is any chemical, physical or biological change in the quality of water that has a harmful effect on any living thing that drinks or uses or lives (in) it” (“What is Water Pollution” 1). Water pollution is not only dangerous to humans but also very dangerous to our ecosystems. Fish, plants, water and other organisms are living in our ecosystems. This type of pollution is not only harming them now, but will continue to harm them in the future. There are many ways how water pollution is harming our ecosystem, whether it is oil spills, marine dumping, nuclear waste, or atmospheric pollution, it is all harming water. Underground storage leakages play a role, yes, they are useful in many ways, but they are also very harmful. “Over time the steel corrodes and causes leakages, affecting soil and groundwater” (“Underground Storage Leakages” 1). Another major factor of water pollution is marine dumping. Marine dumping is the dumping of litter into the sea (“Marine Dumping” 1). Many people do not really understand how dangerous this can be for them and for the future. According to water-pollution.org “Litter items such as a 6-pack ring packaging can get caught in marine animals and may result in death.” Not only is marine dumping harming animals, but also the atmosphere of the habitat of that animal. For instances, cardboard that is disposed into ecosystems takes two weeks to degrade while aluminum takes 200 years to degrade (“Underground Storage Leakages” 3).
