You cannot escape this technology because it is interwoven of what it means to live in a connected world. Digital media has slowly peered its way into classrooms and it is reshaping education. Our growing reliance on technology is redefining education. Technology makes education efficient, engaging, and easily accessible. There are many advantages to digital media and its effect on students learning. Nonetheless, adolescents spend a lot of their time on technology it is easier to transfer these tendencies to more of a educational use. When I was in highschool, my friends and classmates would always forget their textbooks and notebooks. But rarely, do they forget their phones or tablets. So, why not take advantage of our natural tendency to use technology and utilize it for our educational purposes? Technology diverges from the traditional setting of chalk and board and addresses people who possess different learning modalities. The digital media provides myriad of visual sensory appeal to those who don’t learn in a lecture setting. Education is redefined to being hands-on and engaging, which ultimately, makes learning seem easy. Technology can provide interactive learning where it increases motivation and self-esteem. As a college student, I know the expense too well and seeing that, I think the solution is online classes. Jeremiah Tsyporin’s The Mega University debates if massive open online courses (MOOC) are favorable compared to that of traditional education. He states that “MOOCs provide a quick fix: easily accessible, free, and high-quality education” (Tsyporin 345). I think the major problem that MOOCs solve is what most university students face every year - over-enrollment. Online classes would allow college students to get into the classes they need without having to wait extra quarter or semester, enabling us to save time and money.
