The purpose of this short paper is to compare and contrast three different peer-reviewed journal articles and one online periodical. First, the paper provides a brief introduction of the four articles. Second, the paper compares and contrasts the four articles. Finally, the author presents his views on the topic of social responsibility and business ethics before concluding the paper.
All four articles center their focus on business ethics. Of the four articles, three are scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles and one, by Friedman, is an online periodical.
The first article is “To be ethical or not to be: An international code of ethics for leadership” by Aja Alahmad. This article first states the importance of the topic issue. The author claims that there are no clearly defined codes of ethics that leaders around the world can follow. Then the article proposes the following list of codes of ethics for leadership: “honesty, tell the truth no matter what, respect, punctuality, not judgmental, just, humble, and dignity” (Alahmad 2010, p. 31).
The second article is “What is business ethics?” by Peter F. Drucker. This journal article first blatantly attacks business ethics, specifically Western version of business ethics’ definition. This paper declares that business ethics is nonexisting. The article then goes on offering its own versions of the definitions of business ethics. The author opines that Casuistry and business ethics are similar in nature, therefore, Casuistry failed and so will business ethics.
