Do opposites attract? With magnets, they do. And with math, two opposites make a positive. However, does this apply to human beings? Do opposites attract--do birds of a feather flock together? Many people have used these two phrases throughout many years, but what do they really mean? Are these two phrases talking about appearance or personality? In truth, looking at both of these phrases, they state the opposite of one another: They are contradicting each other! How can both sayings be true if one exists and the other does as well? “Opposites attract” states that people with opposite appearance, personalities, beliefs, attitudes, and every other attribute in a human being are the perfect match for each other. “Birds of a feather flock together” states that people who are similar in every way are perfect matches. Now, not every factor of a human being has to be opposite or similar, but these phrases are saying that most factors are either similar or opposing each other. So the critical question is do opposites attract? Do people pursue those who seem like their opposite or those who are similar, and how do we determine that? The only possible answer is to do some studies and determine whether or not opposites really do attract. And the studies that will be shown will conclude that opposites attract is a false statement. We will be focusing more on what one can see in a person rather than what they cannot to show that opposite attraction is false. For instance, appearance is a major factor that can been seen by anyone without even talking to them. However, there are also other factors that one can see in another Lam 2 person, such as their personality, just with a greeting or in making conversation. If you have ever read the book 1984 by George Orwell, then an interesting topic may have crossed your mind. The way the classes of people break down can be quite similar, and very different at times. In the United States, we have classes like the lower class, the working class, and the middle class. In 1984, there were such classes as the Proles, the Outer Party, and the Inner Party. The way the classes are broken down in 1984 reminds me a little bit of my old history class. When I studied medieval times and the classes back then were broken down into the nobles, the bourgeois, and the serfs.
Human social affinity appears to be much more interesting than “nice people are liked” and “aggressive people are disliked.” A more nuanced view emerges when considering the evolutionary functions of behaviors as they relate to dominance. The bulk of psychology considers antisociality and prosociality as opposite ends of a single continuum and, as such, assumes that they serve opposing functions. Here, I have considered them as serving the same function as two sides of the same coin (437).
The interpersonal circumplex describes state-like personality characteristics and predicts behaviour between two people. The dimensions of the model are intended to possess complementarity, whereby individuals seek personalities that complement and strengthen their own characteristics via reciprocity and correspondence (Woodward & Bauer, 2007). This means that those individuals who are high in dominance would gravitate towards someone who is submissive and vice versa. In contrast, those high in hostility would attract hostile counterparts. Thus, the interaction between personality characteristics of humans and their pets may serve to strengthen the relationship bond (Woodward & Bauer, 2007).

Class in the American Culture is based on economic and social differences, and it remains a powerful force in American life and has come to play a greater role in today’s society. American culture classified social classes as three different levels, the higher class which is classified as the wealthier and have the most money and a certain lifestyles and clothes. The middle class more like the businesses, people who have a reasonable income. And the last class is the low class which are the working class people. Those in the upper middle classes enjoy better health and live longer than those in the middle classes, who live longer and better than those at the bottom. That 's because money, good jobs and connections help the better-off get the best medical care. People in the upper class also maintain a certain lifestyle and sometimes different clothing lifestyle than the ones in the lower classes.
There are eight classes in America consisting of the rich elite, very rich-upper class, lower-upper class, upper-middle class, middle class, working class, working poor and the underclass. In a growing world, relying on education and intelligence, judgments in a social environment are still continuously based off of appearance. A study of the importance of outer looks was produced through a TV game show. Contestants fought to answer questions correctly to improve their personal score. At the end of the game, the player with the highest score was asked to eliminate a team member. Although many times an unattractive player would have higher scores and could be more beneficial than another teammate, only 27% of unattractive members were chosen to advance to the next round (Belot, Bhaskar, and van de Ven 852-853). When society overlooks qualities and characteristics of high value for looks, discrimination conquers.
Although this is also a smaller study (19 women and 16 men), it demonstrates great results. For the measurements of symmetry, the participants had seven bilateral traits measured several times, so there would be minimal errors. They were then taken black and white photos. On the other hand, odor was measured the subjects wear the same non-scented t-shirt for three consecutive nights. They then had to rate their honesty possible violations of the rules. Most of participants did not seem to have any problems. While wearing the t-shirts, the participants were not allowed to wear or shower with anything with scent. I'm sure you have not only heard, but also used the famous phrase "opposites attract. " The statement stands true not only in physics and chemistry, but also in relationships and friendships. We tend to be attracted to people with personalities that differ from ours, so life would be more interesting, and desire the opposite of what we have. A perfect example of this, is Sula and Nel, best friends from Toni Morrison's novel, "Sula", where the conventional ideas of good and evil are turned upside down. The two girls are like opposite sides of a magnet, strongly attracted toward one another and useless when split apart.

In analyzing the aspect of attraction, we take a look at attraction from the perspective of Elaine Hatfield and Ellen Berscheid. Hatfield and Berscheid are American social psychologists whose work has helped to provide insight into what we now know about relationship science. According to Hatfield and Berscheid’s theory on interpersonal attraction, people are attracted to one another for four main reasons. It is only in recent years that physical attractiveness was looked upon from a scientific point of view and not simply a poetic or philosophical pondering. We now know that we have a predisposition to see physical attraction as the primary factor of romantic attraction. When people first begin to date, they are more attracted to the partners they deem to be more physically attractive 1. Another example of physical attraction as an influential factor of our attraction to others is seen in the matching hypothesis. The matching hypothesis proposes that the forming of a successful relationship is far more prone to occurring with people whom they consider to have an equal level of physical attractiveness to themselves.
