What truly prepares you for some of the challenges you are going to face in your life? Whether this preparation is used academically or simply in the everyday life that we are all going to face after graduation, it is necessary in order to transition from childhood into adulthood. It is common that as you progress through High School, your classes are going to become more and more complex; testing your mental strength more than you have ever done. One subject that has tested my mental strength, as well as drastically changed throughout my four years of High School, would be would be English. I thought that having to do four steps when writing an essay was difficult; this year, four steps barely gets you to the first draft of your essay. Seemingly, the challenges faced thus far for English 110 exceed those of any other English class. I always used to think that writing an essay was effortless, that I could just write down whatever came to mind, put a title on it, and call it good; boy, was I wrong. In English 110, I have to add extensive detail, thought, consideration, effort, and research into my writing. Additionally, I now have to follow the entire writing process from start to finish. In preceding English classes, I was only taught how to do a four-square for a planning page, three drafts, a self-edit, and a peer-edit; in English 110, I have learned to add a brainstorm, cluster, informal and formal outline, and a teacher edit in addition to the steps I had already learned. I also have paid so much more attention to detail in this class. From what I previously understood, grammar and usage were merely spelling and simple punctuation errors that were underused guidelines, and were paid very little attention to. I now am aware of the Mortal Sins of Essay Writing, and what a huge concept they actually are.
