James Griffith is a twenty one year old male college student who attends Simpson University in Redding California. He decided to look into his diet for a project that was assigned in a nutrition class that he was taking. The project required him to write down the foods that he consumed over a three day period. By doing so, he was able to see what his diet consisted of over the three days. The three days do not necessarily reflect the complete diet of James Griffith, but give him a model to look at that reflects his eating patterns. Upon looking back at the diet project, James was able to see what vitamins and minerals that he had consumed. By looking at the different vitamins and minerals that were present in the food he consumed, he was able …show more content…
It is necessary for a person to get the appropriate amount of both of those things, but they also need to have a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables along with them. James knew that he had to have a better rounded diet in order to be as healthy as possible. Sizer explains that, “A well planned diet is adequate, balanced, moderate in energy, and moderate in unwanted constituents, and offer a variety of nutritious foods.”(Sizer, 2013, p.12) Having an adequate diet is the goal of James but, saying one is going to eat a better diet is a lot different that actually doing so. A majority of people try to eat better, but just cannot bring themselves to do so because of various reasons. Some of the reasons are their access to the food or preference of taste. In James’ case, it was his preference of taste. He had a variety of foods to choose from at the Simpson University cafeteria, since they try to always have fresh fruit and vegetables available for the students. He did not necessarily mind the taste of fruits and vegetables, but he just enjoyed the taste of other foods more. He knew that if he wanted to be healthier and have his body working at full potential, then he would have to start eating the different kinds of foods. Some of the food that he had in mind was a salad, apples, or even some freshly squeezed orange juice since he noticed that a lot of the drinks he was getting were soft drinks like Dr.

Learning about what the different nutrients do for the human body have motivated Susanne to incorporate those nutrients into her diet. Susanne used to be someone that chose food to lose weight. Now, she is trying to make smart food choices to be healthy. She now understands that it is more important to be healthy than to be skinny. Because this is a factor she cannot change, she understands her food choices and exercise are more important for her daily health maintenance than it might be for someone
According to Web MD Health Foundation “Healthy eating starts with learning new and healthy ways to eat that provide right balance of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.” Healthy eating provides an individual with plenty of energy and be able to manage daily activities, handle stress, prevent and control diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and many others. This diet analysis project provided awareness about calories, nutrients, energy needs and balance to me.
The question comes up again; “How is your diet?” Jessica revisited her diet analysis from the first week of class. She noticed that some things have changed and some things, unfortunately, have not changed. She knew that some things would not change because of the hectic and busy semester and summer she had ahead of her but the things that did change surprised her. This class did some good for her, but she still needs some work on her diet and nutrition.
Waist sizes are expanding, everyone is on a diet of some sort, and a large majority of the population is under the care of a physician for some disease that can be attributed to the modern diet. Information on the origins of this epidemic, potential cures both magical and old-fashioned, and who or what is to blame for this crisis are everywhere you look. Two authors that offer their opinions on this vast subject are Michael Pollan author of the book Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual and Mary Maxfield, graduate student in American Studies with degrees in creative social change and sociology. Pollan offers in his essay, “Escape from the Western Diet” that the problem with today’s society is the confusion over what we should be eating to optimize
Nutrition, I have learned plays a big part in our life. To be honest I was clueless about how much nutrition affected our everyday lives. I love going to the gym working out, now that I know what should go into my diet I think I will see a lot more improvement. I occasionally follow the latest diet fads because I believed it would be better for my health, but in turn it really hurt more than it helped! This Diet Analysis project has been extremely useful course because I can personally relate to it and can use much of the information learned to my daily routines. The Diet Analysis project was a real eye opener because it let me see what exactly I was putting into my diet.
One of the most unhealthy diets in the world is that of an American. It is made up of processed foods and a good amount of television. America easily has the most fast food restaurants in the entire world. Leave it to McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King or any other fast-food restaurant to serve extremely cheap and even unhealthier food at any time during the day or night. ”It tastes good so why not?” That seems to be the question many people are asking now-a-days. Because it is so easily accessible and processed, it is made to be very tasty and extremely unhealthy. Many Americans find his or herself indulging on the these fatty foods of America on a day-to-day basis. While it may taste good at the time, it has a terrible effect on your body on a long-term basis. Eat it regularly, and it becomes a nasty and deadly habit and can cause heart failure, Type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol, high-blood pressure, and many other life threatening complications to the body. The American diet has a numerous amount of pitfalls and disgusting habits. The American diet is one of the worst diets because of its portions, processed foods, and how it is very cheap, but the American diet can be overcome with determination, a healthy diet, and an exercise routine.
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
Most Americans do not care enough to take a look at the nutritional values of the food that he or she is consuming. That is why America has the highest percentage of obesity in the world. This is a serious problem because one in every three adults is obese, and one in every six children is obese. There are many factors that go into the regular American diet, but most of those factors are not appealing nor is it healthy. Americans put way too much processed food into their daily diet. Some would say that other countries diets superior the American diet because of nutritional values that it carries. Other countries have proven that an active lifestyle is a huge element in the average weight of the country. There are many things that Americans could change about their diets and lifestyle that would help them to become healthier.
Having to list what I eat each day, see the calories consumed and then see the lack of nutrients that were contained therein was not only eye opening but a total shock. I would have predicted that I was eating well enough to provide all my essential nutrient needs. However, I was very mistaken. I think this was my biggest shock of the semester. Because I love vegetables, I thought that it would make up for the fact that I don’t particularly care for fruits. However, by tracking what I eat and analyzing the nutrient values, I see where I am not getting some of the important vitamins that I need. Although, it has been subtle, I am making some changes in my diet, however, the awareness is keenly there. On a spiritual note it really emphasizes the truthfulness of the Word of
Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.
One of the reason’s why I felt my nutrition needed to changes is because nutrition is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle, the way that we eat and what foods we consume can have a huge impact on our everyday lives. Nutrition plays a huge role in multiple facets of a person’s life energy, health, skin, weight, confidence, and more making having a good control on your eating habits extremely important. How we eat over the years and what foods we routinely choose to eat can eventually have a lasting effect on use and what we consider to be most appealing and appetizing at any given moment. Having these craving and routine habits makes eating, diet, and nutrition both a behavior and a lifestyle choice that can be changed over time with help from the theories learned in this class.
Foods are the basic needs of life. Without them, all people would die due to starvation. During the BC years, foods are considered as scarce resources since humans are not full of knowledge at that time. Now, foods could be found anywhere around us. There is not one area which is not filled with foods. Humans these days are full of ideas that they could even create artificial foods. The presence of foods are in excess in human lives but, are all of them considered as healthy foods with essential nutrients? What are the different kinds of nutrients? How do we know the quantity that we are supposed to eat? A lot of stuffs are going to be discussed in this essay.
When I was involved in sports I often ate very nutritious foods because I want to stay as physically fit as possible and eating right helped me do that. However, now that I don’t play sports and am a lot more concerned with school and work, making nutritious choices tends to fall to the back burner. Doing this assignment and taking this class in general have made me want to make more thought through decisions about what foods I chose to put into my body. I know eating a balanced diet makes people feel better mentally and physically, so it’s something I have been working on making a priority in my life once
Food is one of the necessities of life in order to survive. Everyone has different views on what to eat and different eating habits. People are so busy in their everyday life that they don’t keep track of what they eat on a daily basis. However, it is important to understand the role of nutrition. Nutrition and exercise are vital to maintain physical health. Proper nutrition is required by our body for energy, growth, maintenance, and repair (Grodner, Roth, & Walkingshw, 2012). Even the brain requires nutrients in order for a person to be intellectually healthy. Along with nutrition, exercise can be controlled by an individual. Exercise helps to strengthen bones and muscles, control weight, improves mental health and mood, reduces risk for cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and some cancers, and overall increases the chances of living longer (CDC). For this assignment, I kept a food journal by tracking what I ate and the amount of exercise on a daily basis on a food tracker for three weeks. The purpose of that was to analyze my diet and exercise in more depth in order to determine the amount of vitamins, minerals, fat, protein, carbohydrates, and calories I am eating daily. Based on the results, I made some modifications.
