Diagnostic decision making in medicine involves a cognitive process. As a clinician/physician, their main task is to make sure to give reasoned decisions about their patients based on the available information. Problem solving research was initially aimed at describing reasoning by physicians to improve instuctions and as a process of testing hypotheses. Solutions to difficult diagnostic problems were found in hypothesis early in the diagnostic process ad use them for further collection of data (Elstein & Schwarz, 2002). Problem solving consists of four strategies; hypothesis testing,pattern recognition, specific instances, and general prototypes. The choice of strategy for diagnostic problem solving depends on the perceived difficulty of the case and on knowledge of content as well as strategy (Elstein & Schwarz, 2002). Decision making involves many information typically perceived and evaluated in order to produce the best single choice (Wickens et al., 2013). Availability is when people tend to overestimate the frequency of vivid or easily recalled events and to underestimate the frequency of events that are either very ordinary or difficult to recall as it refers to the ease which instances or occurrences can be brought to mind (Wickens et al., 2013). Representativeness refers to estimating the probability of disease by judging how similar a case is to a diagnostic category or prototype (Elstein & Schwarz, 2002). The purpose of the Myers-Biggs Type Indicator personality type is to make the philosophy of psychological indicators defined by C.G Jung comprehensible and beneficial to people. On the other hand, several people realize that every individual prefers diverse learning styles and methods, which is the common way of learning. According to Howard Gardner, to lengthen the learning ability of people, more cognizance needs to be given to different learning style that people will prefer to receive data. There are different types of personality indicator and learning styles, but based on this assignment, I am going to describe two personality types and three learning styles.
After taking the Meyers-Briggs Personality Test, I determined my Jung Typology was ISTJ (introvert sensing thinking judging) by taking the Jung Typology Test (2016). Based on the test, I had a moderate preference for all of these, except sensing, which I only had a slight preference for sensing over intuition. Research was conducted using the website www.personalitypage.com and Type Talk at Work textbook to evaluate the accuracy of the personality type in the test. Based on the research and my personal evaluation, the test accurately captured my personality. From the research I learned specifics about my qualities and preferences which will help me better perform as an employee, co-worker, and manager.
In the early 1920’s the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung developed a theory of personality types where he said behavioral differences were “a result of preferences related to the basic functions our personalities perform throughout life” (p. 8). Our learning is never going to stop especially in our heath care field and every day we learn something new in our field. When I was in college my principal used to tell us that after we finish our physical therapy program we should work under senior physical therapist for at least two years to gain more experience before working independently.
