Diabetes
Definition: diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in your blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly.
This is because your pancreas doesn’t produce any insulin, or not enough insulin, top help glucose enter your body’s cells – or the insulin that is produced does not work properly (known as insulin resistance)

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high.

Different types of Diabetes…
There are 2 main types of diabetes:
Type 1: where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin.
Type 2: where the body doesn’t produce enough insulin, or the body’s cells don’t react to insulin.
Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1. In the UK, around 90% of all adults with diabetes have type 2.
During pregnancy, some woman have such high blood glucose that their body is unable to produce enough insulin to absorb all. This is known as gestational diabetes.
Pre-diabetes
Many more people have blood sugar levels above the normal range, but not high enough to be diagnosed as having diabetes.
This is sometimes known as having pre-diabetes. If your blood sugar level is above normal range, you risk developing full blown diabetes.
It is very important to discover having diabetes as early as possible, if you have it, because it can get increasingly worse as it goes untreated and it could end up being fatal.
