Nurse Anesthetist and their journey to where they are now
Nurses have played an important role in medicine throughout the years. When people hear the word “nurse” they often think of the ones in the hospital given care and educating. Many people don’t think about the other branches of nursing like the nurse Anesthetist. A nurse Anesthetist has contributed a great deal in administering anesthetics for about 150 years. Nurse anesthetist have struggled with autonomy and being able to practice without being supervised by an Anesthesiologist. They also were limited to work in specific areas but now they work in many hospital and outpatient settings. Nurse anesthetists have come a long way and are conducting research and are helping improve the world of anesthesia care. As a whole the nurse anesthetist career has grown from the 80’s to the present from and it’s just going to continue to grow and improve.
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) started working in hospital doing what no one else wanted to do. Hagelhout & Plaus (2013) write about who would administer anesthesia in the 1800’s. The work of anesthesia was delegated to students, nurses, newly graduated physicians, specialist in other fields and even custodian were called upon to be etherizers (Nagelhout &Plaus 2013). One reason nurse anesthetist profession was created was to have a consistency of who administered anesthesia because back then intern would to it. The interns couldn’t be trusted because they would focus on the surgeries instead of the patient. The nurses had the drive and dedication to administer anesthesia without being distracted.

... been conducted. CRNAs haven’t just focused their research on Anesthesia instead they focus on a wide variety from education to economics. That’s shows that CRNAs don’t just want to contribute to the improving Anesthesia care but also everything in-between which shows they care for the patient as a whole.
