Human Computer Interface Introduction ============ HCI stands for either Human Computer Interface or Human Computer Interaction. HCI is the study of how the users of computers utilise them to complete tasks in the environment they will finally be used in. Each of these are specific to each task, a HCI cannot be designed for just one set of users for one set of tasks and then just expect a different set of users to respond the same to a similar set of tasks in the same HCI. When designing an HCI system it is important to consider how the users will interact with computer devices and the system that is being created. It is important to consider all aspects including the tasks to be completed, the technology that is going to be used (e.g. input/output), how they will interact with the system and the environment the users will be using the system in. Within HCI the designer needs to bring all these together to match the technology with the users and the environment so the right system can be created for the users. Areas Of HCI ============ Users ----- There any many different types of users these are listed below: * Business Users * Using systems for one particular use to use with the specific business * Personal Users * Using systems for personal use on a more varied spectrum e.g. internet, word processing, desktop publishing * Disabled Users (Mental and Physical) * Physical Disabilities i.e. one arm, one eye etc. * Mental Disabilities * Tourists * Language Barrier * Different Cultural Issues * Different User Levels Of Expertise * Expert
I do not often impose higher standards on others than I do on me, but there are at times where I occasionally do. To fix this, I will make sure to either split up the task or guide them throughout the process. This way, everyone works as one and everyone has an equal amount of level of work.
Normally in a group, the work will be divided into the number of members in the group and may be arranged to each of the members to receive the part where they are more confident and have more knowledge of it. In addition, if a member is confused with their work, he can receive assistance from his teammates rather than just being alone and figure it himself independently. However, I believe sometimes been in a group can have its cons. A common pitfall associated with working as a group is disagreement about the way something is being done, a particular issue, or an opinion. Sometimes one member might have his own beliefs and want to perform a task in their way and conflict can arise from this. Once conflict arises, the members can discuss their own opinions and might arrive to a solution, but this can cause a member to not show their full potential because something was not done the way they wanted. I believe this is very common but if you are open minded, it can be overcome for the sake of the team to be
Two, This person is going to get to contribute more often then the other members of the task group. Three, this person’s evaluations are going to be more positive then the other members. And lastly, they are going to be the main influence of the group above all the members. This person is most likely the leader of the task group, people may think this person is the smartest or gets good grades all the time so everyone makes this person the leader to insure that the whole group will end up with a good grade on the task they are working on.
The group should come up with a list of tasks that need to be completed to lead to project completion. Assign tasks amongst the group, with this idea in mind: tasks are one thing that can be done by one person, not a major responsibility or series of tasks that complete a goal. The tasks should be completed by everyone, then put together into a whole to meet the goal.
The computer that we use in our homes and places of business usually consists of a box containing the computer, a mouse, a couple of disks with drivers, a monitor for output and a keyboard for input. We may connect the computer to any number of local or remote peripherals of other computers, but here is the foundation of the computer. It is here that everything starts, and here is where all of the innovations and ideas of the present day have been started. For the moment let's assume that sufficient processing takes place inside the computer, and look at how things get in and out.
...ated tasks and actions items. By doing so, we were all clear of our responsibilities, goals and her expectations. There were many instances where co-workers offered assistance to other co-workers when they had capacity, because they were aware of everyone’s progress.
Various factors influence how the individuals that are receiving their tasks perceive the work by your tone of voice, inflection, level of involvement, and whether or not you value their input. The following are professional tips for delegating tasks with fairness, consideration,
Information communication technologies (ICT) have been to found to play a very vital role in the world of work. However in their mandate to play such role the information communication technologies have brought its own challenges such as lack of skills to operate them. These challenges inhibit them from playing their vital role in the work of work.
Information Retrieval (IR) is to represent, retrieve from storage and organise the information. The information should be easily access. User will be more interested with easy access information. Information retrieval process is the skills of searching for documents, for information within documents and for metadata about documents, as well as that of searching relational databases and the World Wide Web. According to (Shing Ping Tucker, 2008), E-commerce is rapidly a growing segment in the internet.
I work in a group that currently has six members. The group serves as a central source of information for the firm, and its success relies on an extraordinary amount of cooperation from each of us. As a senior member, I am able to contribute to the group in several ways including: training group members, controlling the quality of the group's output, managing and accurately completing multiple requests with short turnaround
When working on a group project, there are certain skills that are required to make sure that the tasks are being carried out smoothly. With that in mind, it is critical to keep an open line of communication as well as an understanding of the other individuals in the group. The following scenario is of a group project I was a part of that had a breakdown in the two points expressed above.
When working on an assignment in a group it is best to set roles for each team member. That is a process called Group Dynamics. Each team member would have a different function in each group. One member would take the Devil’s Advocate role. That position is for a person in the group that can never agree with any of the members ideas’. It helps the group by allowing them to see what it is like having to deal and work with a difficult team member during the assignment. Another member would take the role of the Listener. Their position would be to sit back quietly, keeping their ideas to themselves and allow the other members to discuss their ideas among the group. Another role in the group is called the Idea Generator. This role is given to
Modern society heavily depends on the abilities of computers, Information Technology, and information processing. As such, since access to information occurs mainly through digital means and media, the way information is arranged and presented on the screen is crucial. Because of this need for fast access and easy arrangement arose, in the early 1980s, companies started to work on various graphical user interfaces (or GUI for short). Most dictionaries define a GUI as ‘a way of arranging information on a computer screen that is easy to understand and use because it uses icons, menus and a mouse rather than only text.’ Introducing such software allowed a human-computer interaction on a visual plane, and took computing to an entirely new level of experience. The first GUI started to emerge, as stated above, in the early 1980s, and within the last 3 decades have completely dominated the way in which human-computer communication occurs. Although some sources argue about it, it is acknowledged that the first company to use a proper graphical user interface was Apple. In 1984 they released the Macintosh computer, which used a graphical system to present information on the screen using boxes and taskbars, and utilized a revolutionary pointer device, now widely known as the mouse. Following this event, other companies started releasing their versions of GUI based operating systems, until in 1995 Microsoft presented Windows 95, which soon became a dominant power on the market, and along with its later installments, led Microsoft to be the IT giant of the 20th century. Since its appearance, the GUI have greatly influenced the IT-centered society, and the role computing and digital devices play in its growth.
Human Computer Interaction is an emerging field that encompasses computer science along with cognitive science, psychology, artificial intelligence, industrial design and human factors engineering. A few decades back the field was confined to personal productivity applications. However, now it has diversified and includes aspects as varied as information systems, visualization, system development process and collaborative systems. The researchers in this field find novel ways and technologies that can facilitate better interface between humans and computers and hence lead to positive outcomes. On an individual level, I tend to figure out how people react to various things in any field, it’s like a hobby that has intrigued me for a long time
I do not know much what an input device is even I have been using computer for many years. I thought that an input device is just a component inside the computer. I also did not know the role of input device play. I am among those people who do not care much about the component inside the computer. Now as I reflect, seems like I have ignored the importance of an input device.
