A hobby is an activity one develops to pursue an interest, outside of one’s regular occupation and engages in them primarily for pleasure. Hobbies range from fly fishing to leather working to star gazing, it can be anything you want it to be and anything you want to do. Having a hobby helps to make you a more interesting person and it can give you the opportunity to meet new people with similar interests. A chain of events may lead you to a new hobby which you had never considered or thought of before.
For instance, take the avid reader of fantasy novels, which in itself is a hobby. From reading these novels, the reader becomes enthralled with swordplay, armor, castles, dungeons and ladies in distress. From this interest, he may research castles and their construction or how swords and armor were developed over the ages. During his research, he may come across the term SCA or The Society for Creative Anachronism. “The Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA, is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts, skills, and traditions of pre-17th-century Europe.” (SCA Heralds, 1995)
Soon afterwards, he finds an event scheduled near his home and visits to learn more about this organization and what they do. Upon arriving at the gate, he is greeted warmly by the event host, who is dressed in period clothing “Garb” (SCA Heralds, 1995) and speaking rather differently, almost cryptic and yet familiar. He hears terms like “mundane” and “herald”, not sure what to make of this. He is given a pamphlet which contains a site map, schedule of activities and a brief synopsis of the history of this particular event.

...often introduced to new and fascinating people with similar interests. A hobby is healthy, up to a point, in that it engages your brain and gains your experiences you would otherwise not have. Everyone has at least one hobby they pursue regularly, most though have several even though they may not acknowledge them all.

My hobbies are watching or playing different sporting events. I enjoy mentoring the youth and working with them to develop skills that they can care with them throughout life. I love giving back to the less fortunate

I read voraciously as a child. I grew up in a college town and spent my summers in Middlebury, Vt, where my father taught summer school. That meant I was surrounded by libraries and by people who love to read and discuss literature. During the Vermont summers, one of my favorite places was Middlebury College's rare books room where I read first-edition Louisa May Alcott novels.

Everybody has different hobbies that he or she would like to do for fun or relaxation. They can be either physical activities like jogging, football, swimming, skateboarding… or mental activities like reading, watching movies, playing computers… and depend on each personality. For me, soccer is my hobby because it’s part of my life and I cannot live without it.

My opinion is that cooking is the best hobby to have, because it can be very useful in life. Cooking is my hobby and has been for several years. I was about five years old, when I started learning how to cook. Cooking is something that I inherited from my grandmother; my grandmother was a professional chef and owned her own restaurant, where I learned how to cook.
