No matter how much planning is put into a presentation or a lesson, there is always room for improvement and self-correction. During my presentation today, I feel like my partner and I did a strong job following the criteria that we had to include in the presentation. The beginning of the presentation started with discussing the objectives. By having the students read the objectives instead of just reading it to them. This is a great way for the students to comprehend by visual seeing them and reciting them. I also thought that this would be a great way for ELLs to have a chance to practice reading if they feel comfortable doing so. However, an addition to the objectives being posted on the board, we could have created little papers to put …show more content…
This would be especially important for English Language Learners so that they will always know what they are doing even when the teacher is not with them discussing the objectives. As far as building background goes I think that my partner and I succeeded because we had the students talk about their own experiences with letters. By engaging them and writing the list on the board, we made sure that there was a constant building background reminder while completing the activity. A way that we could have made that part of the lesson better would have been to have them write something as a group on a worksheet or something so they would be more prepared to share with the class. I feel very confident with how we utilized wait time because we never answered our own question. We always waited until a student raised their hand. As far as the …show more content…
The first thing that I noticed was that most people brought up how we taught the structure of the letter. They felt that we should have explained the structure of a letter better. Some also felt that we should have gone over it with the entire class instead of having just two people come to the board to label model. Our thought process when creating the mini-lesson was that by mentioning that we had gone over the parts of a writing piece last class, that it would make labeling the letter easier. I know realize that we should have taken a minute to have the words on the board so that they could add them to their vocabulary. This would have also helped them when doing the activity in case they forgot and did not know where something should go. Like I said in my personal reflection about the presentation, in the future if I were to do this lesson I would have a separate lesson for the structure of the letter to focus more time on
Another thing that I observed and recorded with an a frequency count was Jamie doing several work sheets. One of theses worksheets was a math specifically counting and the other worked on identifying objects that started with the letter R. After the teacher gave instructions on both the papers Jamie started to work on her worksheets. With in the time it took her to finish these worksheets (less then 15 minute) Jamie ask on of the adults if she was doing the work correctly about seven times. One thing that I would modify in the future is the instructions that were given at the beginning. I would make sure that the students understood what they were support to be doing before they started the assignment. I would also be very specific with
In the last few decades the concept of reflective practice has burgeoned throughout numerous fields of education and professional practice. Regardless of its prevalence there continues to be a considerable variance in the understanding of reflective practice (Fook et al, 2006). Even within the same theories, contradictory perceptions of how reflective practice should be executed are observed (Hébert, 2015).
However, I did notice that there were a few faults in the presentation, one being a fault that I personally consider may have negatively impacted our presentation. It seems to me that I was not able to deliver the presentation to the best of my ability as I had let my nerves get the best of me when talking to the staff. The reason for this was that I was not comfortable with taking on the speaking role that I was given and that there were last minute changes made to my slides right before presenting. Bruner, (1996) stated that the learning process for staff relies on the “meaningful dialogue” that is presented by the presenters. In this case, I think that my speech was not strong enough to grab the audience’s attention, thus not being able to portray my message about what an Ofsted inspection is and what the results from an Ofsted inspection mean. Nevertheless, although I was not able to present to the quality that I had wished, the feedback received was reassuring that I had not done terribly bad. I was able to see myself grow as a presenter as I noticed that my
My portfolio will demonstrate the skills and writing techniques I have developed and honed while taking the course English 1010 at the University of Memphis. Some of the techniques and skills I have learned include how to write with different persuasive strategies on the audience and how to incorporate critical thinking into my work. As well as these skills I have learned how to apply an effective composing process to my writing and have fine tuned my writing abilities. Writing with different styles on different topics has improved the way I approach writing papers. These styles helped me learn quickly, therefore making me a better writer and student at the same time.
The first strategy of found with the chapter is “Say it, Write it”,” this strategy is used in a grade Kindergarten and 1st grade in addition to 3rd cursive handwriting. The teacher will provide each student with a dry erase board and marker for the activity. The teacher will say the letter she wants the students to write and then demonstrate by writing the letter on their own dry erase board. The teacher will then hide the demonstration and tell the students to “write it” in 10 seconds. When the time is up, the teacher will make note of the students who was unable to write the letter. The teacher will advise the student to erase the letter and rewrite it with only 7 seconds, they will complete this practice within 5 seconds until they get to 2 seconds to which they are to show legible handwriting. As mention before, the student I am working with struggles with legible handwriting, therefore this strategy will be used a as practice for the student to build her writing
Within the health profession Reflection is one of the most widely used strategies to ensure the on-going improvements to the quality of nursing care.
The Lesson- I will be teaching point of view and perspective. Through this lesson students will be expected to identify the point of view of stories based on clue pronouns. We started this lesson by taking notes on four different point of views and the clue pronouns associated with each point of view. Then we discussed stories we have read and their point of view. Finally we ended the lesson with a writing assignment where each student had a picture and they had to write a story about the picture in first person, second person, and third person limited and omniscient. The following day the first assessment was given. The next week we reviewed the lesson adding the J factor to it. I created a prezi reviewing our notes taken the week before, this included a fun point of view song by flocabulary. Then we played a mingling game. Each student has a card with a passage from well-known novel, poem, or story. Their job was to mingle around the classroom and when the singing stop the first person they saw was their partner. They were expected to read their card to the
After taking this course, this has been a struggling journey. I did not find fun in this class due to the grade I have now as a result. My writing skills did not improve from high school, losing confidence in myself to create well-written, interesting papers. However, this class has given me ideas about new styles of writing. Having done these papers helped me to discern the qualifications to write a rhetorical analysis essay from a visual critique paper. Here is how my experience in College Writing went.
After completing this written assignment I have validated my understanding about the importance of reflecting on own practice to promote positive outcomes for each child. Having a written reflection on the lesson plans lets me know what went well during the lesson, what I would do different the next time I teach this lesson. How would I engage the students more in the activity and was the lesson developmentally appropriate for this age
Looking back on my first semester as an Ole Miss student, I have been taught valuable information that has made me a more educated individual and a more advanced writer. While reflecting on my development in the class of Writing 101, I have discovered that the learning outcome of the writing process has been the most beneficial to me this semester. Although I wrote my literacy narrative essay early in the year, it has proven to be the paper most related to the learning process I have chosen. Throughout this course, the writing process has taught me the important and necessary steps of how to write a comprehensive and organized paper that leads to a prosperous grade.
After they finished with the writing it was science time Mrs. Schnure called the library student to get the books out and the group leader give them out to his/her group. I think that is a nice idea in-stand everybody gets up and get the books and wait for the other to move and go back to their seat. She knows how to keep the class organized and not waste
I felt like it was a rollercoaster if I am honest. My students knew so much about Presidents. I also felt that after teaching the first learning experience that I over-prepared for the first learning experience. The following learning experiences have been modified accordingly given this reflection. I tried fitting it all in with the first group. However, that is unreasonable. Time did not allow for all that I had planned. Therefore, I made accommodations so that the learning was not rushed. I also felt that my pre-assessment took time away from the lesson. So my literacy learning segment goal will be to pare down the activities to make it more reasonable and
I gave the kids activities, provided the children with crayons and blank papers to look at the list of food and draw a picture of the healthy foods choices. The class was provided a copy of my power point presentation and resources. I needed the class, adults as well as children, to have a copy of the presentation so they can follow along. Overall this was a great experience for me, even though I must admit that I was a little nervous because teaching in public is not really my area of expertise, but it was a great experience and this experience will really help me moving forward. I will be able to get involved in presentations and public speaking both at work and in the
For my assignment I have decided to choose a group which I have just finished taking for level 1 Hairdressing and they have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. This is within my current role as a hairdressing lecturer at Hugh Baird College which I have done since October. Within this group there are a couple of people who have support workers. There is one student within the group who has severe learning difficulties and is a more mature student. She also has many health problems which results in her having to carry an oxygen tank around for when she has any problems with her breathing due to her having problems with her heart. There is also another student in the class who has learning difficulties, she is very clever but just needs someone there for when she needs something explaining. She also has a support worker that comes in to give her support. This student has also been going through personal problems at home and has attendance issues. There is another student within this group who has severe dyslexia. She doesn’t have a support worker but the support people who are in there do give her help as she can have a tendency to give up, not to listen and just needs to be kept on track so by sitting next to a person that does have a support worker she gets the help from them. These three students have all had their level 1 qualification extended for a year were the rest of the group have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. Two of these students may progress on to level 2 but one doesn’t have the ability to be able to do this as the requirements are too high for her. The reason the course was extended for them was because they were struggling with the work that was required for this qualification, but as the col...
The teachers were giving the students positive reinforcement throughout the day. In class we talked about how positive reinforcement helps the students to succeed in their classes. Another ah-ha moment was the environment of the classroom. The classroom had no windows at all. In class we talked about what kinds of things are distracting to students with ASD in classrooms and one of those things are the windows in classrooms. The third ah-ha moment was the parent sheets that the teacher and the school provide for the parents. In class we talked about how parent involvement is very important for the students with disabilities. The teacher fills out the parent involvement paper that lets the parents know how the child did in school this week and what their child needs to improve on. The students must give their paper to their parents to look at when they get home. The things that I had learned during my observation experience that I will use in the future for my classroom will be including student learning objectives in the classroom, using positive reinforcement, and get the parents more involved in their child’s education. I will go over with the students what the student learning objectives are in the beginning of class so the students will know what they will be doing and what they will be learning throughout the day. I also will use positive
