Their ears hung gracefully alongside their face like long locks of curls. Eyes as round as buttons stare at me with sadness as I walk out the door, wagging their tree stumps as they sit on their hind legs. I am left with their soft scent of vanilla as I close the door behind me. After a long week away at work, I return home to my babies. In such great spirits, they run to me and all I can see are their ears fluttering like butterflies in an afternoon breeze. As playful as a child, they jump on top of me as my fingers graze over their ears, so soft and fluffy like rabbit tails. Their love is like that of a baby so pure and innocent. As the day ended we were left with an aroma of peacefulness, as night took over, I lay myself down for bed with Lola and Boa, all I could see was little glow bugs in the dark gleaming at me as their cries echoed through the night air. As I open the windows I am filled with the scent of crispness from the fresh cut grass enter, as the neighbors are mowing their lawns. As I stand on the back porch, I take in a deep breath. I can smell the morning dew after the night’s rain, leaving my mouth watering with that of honey dew and fresh cut watermelon. I go with my babies outside in the back yard to play. Baby signing is used to teach children who are not yet speaking to communicate through symbolic hand gestures. Many researchers believe this form of communication is beneficial to families in that it may relieve frustration for the baby (Gongora & Chammarrita, 2009). For example, a child who is taught sign language can make the sign for juice to communicate that he or she is thirsty (Gongora & Chamarrita, 2009). Also, baby signing is believed to promote a bond between the child and parent, as well as improve language development (Gongora & Chammarrita, 2009). Over the yeears, baby signing programs have gained much attention in the media. As a result, many parents have purchased these programs with aticipations of accelerating their children’s development ( Gongora & Chamarrita, 2009). Years have been dedicated to this research; however, evidence to support the beneficial claims of baby signing remains unclear.

Unfortunately, some of these tiny, fragile humans do not live until their first birthday. The death of infants within the first year of life is known as infant mortality. There are many contributing factors as to why infant mortality may be high or low in a specific area. In order to measure the amount of deaths that occur in a particular region, the number of newborns that die before the age of one year old per 1,000 live births are recorded and is known as the infant mortality rate in that society. Generally, the infant mortality rate of a country directly reflects on the health-care system provided. Unfortunately, in today’s world, a child dies every four seconds.
The first two years of a humans life are bursting with biosocial, cognitive, and psychosocial development. In the first few weeks after conception to two years after birth a child’s brain experiences more growth than any other organ in the body. During the first two years of a child’s life the brain is very plastic and malleable. In order for children to continue down a path of success and learning there are certain experiences a child must have in order to develop normally. The First Two years of a child life is responsible for the foundation that is layed.

Isn 't it crazy to think that we were once just a tiny organism? Nothing more than a group cells forming together? From the time of conception, the baby develops so quickly it is remarkable. The period from conception to birth is a truly beautiful development. And while the baby is quickly being formed from cell to human, the parents are quickly learning the birthing process and all there is to expect. There are three major parts to having a baby, the prenatal development, birth and the postpartum period.
A magnificent creature that just want to feel simple things like freedom, be social, a caress. In this poem I can appreciate the suffering of a creature in captivity whose desire is to experience such elementary things as being the companion of a human and give his love, feeling a touch, a little affection and attention; things that should not be denied to any living creature. This poem is a desperate cry for freedom and what for me are the basic rights of any household animals, such as dogs. As the first rays of the sun peak over the horizon, penetrating the dark, soft light illuminates the mist rising up from the ground, forming an eerie, almost surreal landscape. The ground sparkles, wet with dew, and while walking from the truck to the barn, my riding boots soak it in. The crickets still chirp, only slower now. They know that daytime fast approaches. Sounds, the soft rustling of hooves, a snort, and from far down the aisle a sharp whinny that begs for breakfast, inform me that the crickets are not the only ones preparing for the day.

The street is quiet, and seems like it is dead. The sounds I can hear are the leaves rustling in the breeze, and the pitter-patter sounds of raindrops falling on the ground. Together, they compose a brilliant song of nature. No din from the high-school students, no irritating noise from the car. No one, not even a soul dares to make a sound to disturb this moment. Everything is silent, as if it isn’t even alive, just like a ghost street that only emerges in the mid-night and will vanish when the first sunlight strikes down from the sky. Wet dirt mixes with the smells of perfumes that left behind by people suffuse the air. Making me think of the mixture of sodas and expired apple juices.

The grass was soft and green, reserved for those who wanted to lie down or sit. A sweet aroma of flowers overflowed near by like s shinning light, but was hidden by the untrimmed bushes and wildly growing trees. Up above me was the beautiful, high noon blue sky spotted with fluffy, white clouds and airplanes flying by. I emerged into the parking lot and stopped happily as a squirrel under a tree. Hesitating to proceed anywhere further I took a few minutes to treasure the moment of silence and peace. As my girlfriend and I got out of the car to get ready for the picnic, she happened to be distracted by the water; a rhythmic ongoing resemblance of rhythm in her heart. The water was clam and beautiful in every aspect. To me she was like a wave, never stooping to catch attention or go unnoticed. Before doing anything else, we began setting up the picnic. By the time we ware done, her temptation was unbearable and was finally unable to overcome it, consequently she eagerly ran towards the water pulling me right behind her. Each step was like an imprint in my heart, a fossil that would always remain the same and special inside me forever.
Before taking this course I already had a prior knowledge on infant and toddler development being a child development and family relations major. I have worked hands on with children in this age range and from previous courses know a lot about their physical growth and development. I knew that baby’s had poorly developed muscles in the beginning stages of life, but I didn’t know how long it took to get the muscles to develop. When holding a child we were always taught to support the neck and never let it just flop around. It was interesting to find out that even though a baby might be able to lift its head at one month its neck muscles are not fully developed until three months. By the time a child reaches two years of age their baby fat will start to disappear and be replaced by muscle from their constant movement like running and jumping.
