Description of the item or thing you selected:
The Simchat Torah, also known as the "Joy of the Torah", is a Jewish holiday that celebrate 's the completion of the annual cycle of public Torah readings, and sets the beginning of a new cycle. It is a joyous day in which celebrates the Jewish love for the Torah and its studies. The Simchat Torah is celebrated on the second day of Shemini Atzeret, which follows immediately after the eight-day festival of Sukkot. It is an annual custom that is observed on the 22nd to 23rd of Tishrei, in which this year lands on the 24th of October. Beginning at sunset, it is celebrated by removing all the Torah scrolls out of the ark in the synagogue and spend the evening singing, dancing, and rejoicing. Then, the Jewish people would kiss the scrolls that are carried around the sanctuary in seven circles called "hakafot", as they dance they also sing,"Lord, please save us! Lord, please prosper us! Lord, please answer on the day we cry out." It is also tradition to drink alcohol as part of the rejoicing experience, along with any rolled foods (like the scrolls) such as stuffed cabbage and blintzes. After the dancing, all scrolls except for one is returned back to the Ark, and then the congregation will read the last two chapters of Deuteronomy, consisting the death of Moses. In the next morning, they reread the same passage and the first chapter of Genesis.

This particular holiday was first created by the 10th century Jewish Community of Babylonia. They gave it the name Simchat Torah and began the tradition of dancing with the Torah as a sign of its celebration. During the Gallic period in Babylon, the Torah had been separated into 54 parashiot, "reading portions," which was to be read each Shabbat du...

This passage explains the Israelites following God 's words and commands by offering it to Him, just like how the Jewish community celebrates their love for God on the Simchat Torah. In conclusion, these readings the Jewish community learns, help them understand that "the building of a new society is similar to the creation of a new world, and that death also leads to life".

The celebration of the Simchat Torah plays an important role in the lives of the Jewish community, just like any other celebration such as Rosh Hashanah. Again, it is the celebration of the new beginning of the Torah, but it is also the rejoicing and celebration of the Jewish community 's love of and for the Torah. Celebrating this holiday privately or publicly, the Jewish people will rejoice in large crowds by feasting, dancing, and singing special songs.

Essay about The President Needs the Line-item Veto

- The United State’s Constitution, the shortest written Constitution in the world, only has twenty-seven amendments, and now it is time to add another. The power of a presidential line-item veto was denied to the Clinton Administration in 1998, but with this last Congress being the least productive Congress ever, it is time to re-think the power distribution in the legislative process. In Congress, on average, only 10% of the bills proposed make their way through, and ever reach the President’s desk....   [tags: Pro Line-item Veto]

Essay about Description Of The Line Item Budgeting

- Line-item Budgeting Line item budgeting categorizes various expenses and places them in list format on a document for budgetary purposes. This type of budgeting is considered the heartbeat of budgeting due to the systematic method by which it controls revenue and expenses, this is made evident when Tyer and Willand (1992), pointed out “Statutory or administrative controls could be imposed on the transfer of funds from one-line item to another, or between broad categories of expenditure.” According to Schick (1971), “line item budgets were attractive to legislative officials because they did not focus explicit attention on substantive policy issues or choices.” Advantages/Disadvantages An...   [tags: Budget, Budgets, Zero-based budgeting]

Why Is Motivation A Good Thing For You? Essay

- I know that I can do and have done all of this, but I choose to minimize what I do in terms of motivation. In a few of my college courses, I’ve had professors say, “Take a look around you that is your competition.” They are referring to the job market and who will be out there looking for the same jobs and making similar career choices as I would be. There is no motivation for me to motivate someone else who could potentially apply and get job that I want. If motivating was part of my job description and necessary for my career, then I would be motivated to do the best job....   [tags: Problem solving, Problem, Question, Want]

Is Death A Bad Thing? Essay

- In life some of us spend our time devoted to finding thrill, maybe even the next best exciting thing. But a particular aphorism quoted by Thomas Higgins that expresses what I think and fits my lifestyle would probably be: “I 'm not scared of death. I just don’t seek it out,” I am not saying that death is a bad thing. But what I think is by not seeking out an early demise I could use biological science to help people. What I seek my thrill in is biology. Yes, biology, the class you once had in high school that you might have sat through and drooled in because of how boring it was....   [tags: Human, Science, Life, Thing]

Essay about Cash Isn 't The Only Thing

- Cash isn 't the only thing I take from my father 's study when I leave home. I take a small, old gold lighter--I like the design and feel of it--and a folding knife with a really sharp blade. Made to skin deer, it has a five-inch blade and a nice heft. Probably something he bought on one of his trips abroad. I also take a sturdy, bright pocket flashlight out of a drawer. Plus sky blue Revo sunglasses to disguise my age. I think about taking my father 's favorite Sea-Dweller Oyster Rolex. It 's a beautiful watch, but something flashy will only attract attention....   [tags: English-language films, Thing]
