Description of the business
Karen Solazzo is a local small business owner. He founded the company Gatehouse Properties Inc. and their goal is providing high quality property management services with integrity, professionalism and respect for their clients. The company owns 7 houses around Conestoga College (Doon campus - Kitchener) and they rent out the rooms for national and international students. Currently, there are more than 45 tenants and every year this number tends to grows because the company is always reinvesting in their business.

1. How long have they been in business?
It has been officially since January 1st, 2014.
2. What does he or she feel are the advantages and disadvantages of small business ownership?
Actually, being an entrepreneur has a lot of advantages, like: you can do what make you happy, you have flexibility and work your own hours, then you can have more time for your personal life. Moreover, you can create the culture of your organization, create personal connections and meeting people from all over the world. Is important to mention that is very important delegate tasks for your team, otherwise it can be very hard to manager your business. Another important advantage is when you create a favourable environment to work, is easier to get more creative. You have more flexibility to find solutions and think outside the box. Finally, when your business grows you have a job stability, which is very hard to think when you are an employee.
Of course that being an entrepreneur there are some risk and disadvantages. There are financial risks because, if your tenants don’t pay you, for sure you will have difficulties in your cash flow. Other important point is you are totally responsible for all liabilities a...

I feel that it is extremely exciting with the Internet exposure, the amount of job innovation and creation. The economy changes and lifestyles have evolved, therefore the demands are greater, more than ever before.
