It was a beautiful Sunday morning with the sun shining down on the beautiful architectural Mosque. I walked toward the Mosque and was greeted by the children’s parents, who ask me how their son/daughter was doing. I happily smiled and told them they were doing well. I went into the Mosque with a positive attitude.
I opened the grand door and saw many students hectically rushing to class though the long white distant hallway. I walked down the hallway and made my way down to the principal office. The stairs were really old school. As I walked door the stairs he could hear the squeaking noise. He noticed me, I greeted him and the other elderly teacher talking with him. Volunteering has given me insight into the students who have trouble in their studies and need help.
Throughout volunteering I was able to build long-lasting friendships. I am closer than ever with the Principal of Sunday School. I see him as a role model who want to see everyone succeed in life. He is a very kind hearted person. I also was able to get close to my friend who is also a volunteer at the local Mosque. He has tremendously helped me in providing different teaching strategies for children that work. I am also friendly with the student parents as they always greet me when I am going to the Mosque.
I have also learned the power of working with children through groups. By working with other students, I found that the student was able to express themselves more and come up with creative ideas. Working with others helps to bring the best out of one selves. Just like how I worked with my friend to come up with successful teaching
For instance, working with others helped me to become a better musician. I knew it would be hard to learn of the new music that we were receiving; therefore, I had to work together with others in order to get better at each piece. I’ve gotten a lot better at reading music because I worked with others to learn new notes. I’ve learned that sometimes there are things that I'm not going to be able to do by myself and the only way way to accomplish them is to work with others. Furthermore, working with others has often helped me with some of my class work. Sometimes I don't fully grasp some of the things that we do in class and I reach out to other classmates in order to get a better understanding of it. Sometimes we have group assignments in class and in that case its really important to work together and communicate in order to finish the assignment. Although, sometimes I find it difficult to work with others because I am not the most sociable person. I know I'm not the only person with this issue because a lot of my friends are fairly quit people. Without a doubt, all teens can learn from the authors valuable lesson of working with
Working with children in a group can show the practitioner what each child knows and learns from different activities, each child is different with their development, although children can help each other learn new and different things from working within a group.
Motion picture actor Will Rogers once said, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” So have you wondered why that someone treats you differently than others? Possibly see you a certain way? Or think about you in a particular fashion? All this happens because of the impressions you make and how your peers process it. A first impression is the event where one person encounters another person and forms a mental image of that person. It only takes 1/10 of a second for us to judge a person and create an image about them (Wikipedia). Although you may not know it at first, you are constantly judging others while they in turn watch and make speculations about you.
When working in groups, it helps students be more tolerable of different ideas and teaches them how to approach and solve problems in a variety of ways. When coming into my future classroom, there will be students working with technology, arts, reading, and writing. All students learn in different ways; therefore, a lesson can be taught using different techniques. For example, if a teacher is teaching photosynthesis, those working with art could draw or create a flower and write down the process of photosynthesis, those working with technology could make a video or PowerPoint showing the process, and those who enjoy reading and writing could write a paper explaining the process of photosynthesis. Field trips will also be incorporated into my future classroom. Taking the class on educational field trips can help them gain real-world experiences. For example, taking them to a mock trial lets them experience the process and setting of a trial. Bringing important and successful people in the class to talk to them could also give them an idea of how and what people in different careers do, which will help them in the future decide what they plan to major in, therefore considering students’ ideas, comments, and interests can and will lead teachers to create an intelligent, critical thinking, experienced, skillful, and understanding
A bead of sweat trickled across my neck like an ice-cold drop of rain running down a windowpane. I stood anxiously, juxtaposed to ten of my fifth grade classmates on a dusty six-inch high platform, each of us in our lint-free suits, as I stared forward to meet the unforgiving eyes of the students and teachers of Main Dunstable Elementary School. As a student, I have had opportunities in which I have advised students my age in helping them with their academics and striving them to reach forward to what they want to pursue in life. I have taught and been tutors for the last two years of my high school, in which I dedicated my time in tutoring students who had struggles in mathematics or physics. I have also volunteered during one of my summer vacations in a migrant summer school program called Central Valley Opportunity Center (CVOC) in Merced. For the location of my naturalistic observational study I chose a public park with a splash pad which I frequently visit with my daughter. Since this site is quite popular with locals at any given time of the day there are at least over a dozen people present. As the park is designed for the entertainment of children the age group of the people varies. There are young children accompanied by their parents and grandparents as well as teenagers in groups. Therefore the above discussed park proved to be the greatest preference for me to observe the behavior of people in a natural setting.
The first time I started volunteering was last year and it changed my perspective towards a lot of things; from the way of looking at people to how my mind works. The impact it's had on my life has been immense and life changing. From there, I constantly tried getting myself involved in giving a hand and at the same time, to widen my knowledge.
I started volunteering at the food bank and the soup kitchen in grade 9, with a nudge from my friend. During my time as a volunteer, I would ask for donations and collect any non-perishable food items. Later I would go to the Soup Kitchen, to help cook some of these items and serve them to those in need. My volunteering experience allowed me to experience the environment and face situations that I otherwise would not. I scarcely snoozed at all, the day before; incidentally, I felt insecure regarding the fact of what the unfamiliar tomorrow may bring and that was rather unnerving. After awakening from a practically restless slumber, I had a hefty breakfast expecting that by the conclusion of the day, all I wanted to do is go back home and sleep. Finally, after it was over, my dad gladly drove me to school; there, stood the place where I would spend my next four years of my life.

Many people only communicate with friends and acquaintances that they see every day. This means that often many people only talk to co-workers or fellow students. Even those that attend a place of worship or participate in a sport or hobby still limit the amount of people they include in their conversations. This often limits social circles and activities that a person is active in. While volunteering, someone may meet up to as many as twenty or more people in less than an hour. Participating in a small talk with a stranger that shares the same interests and is working towards the same cause might turn out to end up being more than just a conversation. The conversation may lead to a friendship. A fun way to bond with already existing friends and family may be to bring them along on project. It was finally the first day of school; I was excited yet nervous. I hoped I would be able to make new friends. The first time I saw the schools name I thought it was the strangest name I’ve ever heard or read, therefore I found it hard to pronounce it in the beginning. The schools’ floors had painted black paw prints, which stood out on the white tiled floor. Once you walk through the doors the office is to the right. The office seemed a bit cramped, since it had so many rooms in such a small area. I spent most of my time in a first grade classroom. In this classroom I observed the children as well as the teacher and paraprofessional. This classroom had children with special needs and that is why there was a paraprofessional in the classroom for half the day. What I observed in this classroom was how children with special need should be handle and taught. The teachers in this room loves her job and each student in her class. While in the classroom the teacher allowed me to help with children with their work, read to them and help them with anything else that they needed. During this field experience I got to give back to not only a school, but to a community that is very near and dear to my heart.
