The way we think plays such a huge role in our day to day lives, we are unaware how much thoughts shape the way we handle things and how we react to them. I chose this particular theory based on the fact that this concept has helped me get out of my depression. It is shown that this specific theory has often shown helpful for clients suffering from depression, anxiety, panic and obsessive-compulsive disorder. (Mulhauser, 2014). While dealing with depression for instance one can find it quite hard changing their mindset so I can understand that this a challenging aspect of this therapy but none the less every theory has its pros and cons. When I was seeing a therapist at first I have to admit it was a very trying endeavor but while looking at this therapy more extensively I have noticed that a lot of the methods she used on me were from the cognitive view point. While any kind of therapy or theories for that matter work for some and not others it about how much you put into bettering yourself regardless of what theory that therapist has chosen to work with. While on theory might work for some it might not work for others. But with this type of the theory and the techniques applied I found it to be rather helpful during my time of depression. I can stay that when I applied those techniques for instance the thought record that I was told to help with my negative thoughts it gave the insight that I need to get out of that kind of mind frame. This theory promotes a positive mind set. Which I think is great way to go about problems I also enjoy this theory because they strictly focus on the thoughts and why one is having them. To me this theory makes the most logical sense in regards to helping someone who is depressed or had anxiety and it has been proven to be effective in treating those areas unlike some of the other theories like psychoanalyst that look too much on the past. I find that this theory focuses on the future which can promote helpful when someone is dwelling on the past like I had done.
