From dental aesthetics, to the enzymes in our saliva, I have long dubbed the oral cavity as a captivating study of interest. In retrospect, any mention of going to the dentist brought me great excitement as a child, oddly enough. I believe that pursuing a career in the dental field is solely the most rewarding, lucrative job of the twenty-first century. Dentists are able to build bonds with their long-time patients, and offer an enjoyable and inviting environment while administering the best oral care possible. What more out of a job could one ask for? Although this career path offers a magnificent future, with grand rewards comes an extensive journey requiring great dedication.
My motivation to learn more about dentistry is driven by my genuine fascination with teeth, and the mouth in general. I have always obsessed over my own teeth, grinning in the mirror and peering at my cusp of Carabelli. To be able to heal oral ailments for a living stands as a spectacular career path to me. I have always had a keen interest to learn and gain knowledge; interest sparks the flame, yet curiosity spreads the fire. It has become evident to my friends and family over the years that I have formed a one-track mind in my pursuit to becoming a dentist, specializing in pediatrics. I believe that with hard work, dedication and my drive to learn, I will surely be able to reach my goal.
It is evident that dental profession is very demanding. This career requires skill and dedication. ...end to map out the different things that I want to do upon earning my degree. I believe that it is very important to help others throughout your journey, and even more so when you finally reach your goal. Money should be the last factor holding a student back from education, and therefore, I plan on offering a scholarship for students interested in pursuing a career in the dental field. I would often play around with different scholarship titles in my head. “Your Smile Is Priceless,” or, “Grin for Green.” Essentially, what matters the most is presenting the leaders of our future with doors of opportunity, and encouraging them to turn the knobs. At the end of the day, I am no fortune teller; I cannot guarantee much of what the future holds for our earth. What I can guarantee is the simple fact that I will continue to work hard, so one day “D.M.D.” will follow my name.
Jajou, I questioned the maintenance of his career. What I acquired was that dental practices all vary and this question does not have one general answer. Dr. Jajou currently owns his own practice, which means he his in charge of his office and pays his employees making his salary higher than common dentists. Professional organizations and conferences are not important in the overall outlook of dentistry. On the other hand, Dr. Jajou had plenty to say about the technology used in dentists’ offices. Digital dentistry, or the use of dental technologies, involves lasers, digital scanners, and x-ray machines. However, only dental laboratory technicians use this expert machinery. Dentists use drills, mouth mirrors, probes, forceps, brushes, and scalpels on patients. Later, I asked why he is excessively passionate about oral health from seeing how captivated he is to answer my questions. In the same manner he responds describing how oral health is a huge part of overall health because plaque can affect can cause heart problems and other major health issues beyond your
In the Dental Hygiene field, many challenges come about every day and during different situations. Every day there are new challenges and unusual situations that occur in the dental field, but one challenge that continues to come about and has been a big dispute over the years is the ability to provide beneficial information about oral health care for the underprivileged. For the individuals that are not fortunate enough to pay to have services done in the dental office, lack the knowledge of how important good oral health care is. They do not receive the one on one conversations explaining the significance of taking care of your teeth and gums that the patients who can afford to make appointments and receive essential services do. That
...take classes such as general biology, organic and inorganic chemistry, physics, and anatomy (Guerin interview). By graduating from an approved dental school and by passing a state board examination, required to qualify for a license in all states, sdentists prepare themselves to begin the practice of dentistry. The general practice of dentistry revolves around families, and working with the dental needs of children. Considering the number one medical problem of children is cavities, dental practice must include working with little children. Children may be eating too many sweets; they may not be flossing and brushing their teeth. Either way, dentistry as a profession must respond to their needs. Several hundred years ago, dentistry was basic repair work. Now that dentistry s a well-known and well-respected profession, most people demand its services. Although practicing dentistry is very complex, the practice of dentistry is in high demand. For many high school students with high goals and a good work ethic, the field of dentistry offers exceptional incentives in a wide choice of specialties, excellent economic opportunities, and the self gratification given y the patient’s smile.

In my experiences, I have found pinpointing a career and channeling my aspirations extremely difficult tasks. That being said, like most difficult endeavors in life, there exists extraordinary reward. Through research, soul searching, and trial and error, I realize that I aspire to make an impact in as many people’s lives as possible, while still taking care of myself and my future family. That is where dentistry comes in to play.
All the various factors that lead me to dentistry amounted to just a part of my decision to become a dentist, the other half of my decision came from the simple question, “(w)ill this be a satisfying career for me?” A satisfying career, to me, is defined by whether or not I can use my career as a means to assist others and experience a sense of accomplishment and self-gratification in helping others. The notion of a satisfying career was one that came through personal experiences. Being a former Medicaid recipient, I was thankful to those that worked in the public health sector to help those in need, including myself and my family. Through my past experiences, I felt obligated to reciprocate the resources and assistance that I had received. At the end of my career, I hope to reflect back on my career and experience a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment for having helped others throughout my career; this is what will amount to successful career, from my point of view.
(To have a real insight into the daily duties of a dentist, I set aside a period of time last summer where I could acquire some work experience.) I spent 2 weeks at a local general practice offering both private and NHS treatment. I witnessed the close relationships to which the dentist had created with his patients, personally I find meeting and working with new people on a daily basis provides quite a fun stimulating aspect to this career. Whilst shadowing my dentist I witnessed a number of complex procedures such as a dislodged wisdom tooth extraction and many root canal fillings. My experience at this practice showed me that dentistry is a career that is heavily dependent on dentist-patient interactions, alongside other collaborating staff to ensure the correct treatment is given in an efficient and effective manner. I also spent a week at my orthodontist, it was here that it became apparent to me the real extent to which dentistry
Pediatric Dentistry is a superb fit for me since I enjoy working with children. Dentists diagnose and treat problems with patients’ teeth, gums, and related parts
As I started my new journey of becoming a dental hygienist, I came into the program with no background of dental. I came into this program with an open mind and willing to embrace new concepts as well as develop new skills. During my time at the Canadian Academy of Dental Hygiene (CADH), I learned that as a dental hygienist that I am committed to promoting and helping each individual achieve their optimal oral health goals. In support of my client’s goals, I may assume any or all of the roles included in the dental hygiene scope of practice. My goal throughout this program was to help my clients achieve their optimal oral health goals through education, health promotion and providing preventive and clinical therapy.
Out of all the careers in the world, a dental hygienist probably has one of the most interesting and flexible jobs. Not only is this career interesting and flexible, but it is also very helpful towards others and usually pays pretty well too. Many people become dental hygienists because of the easy education requirements and high demand for their jobs. These days, dental hygienists are more respected and being hired more rapidly due to the fact that more and more people are keeping and taking better care of their teeth. They also say that at the end of the day they feel accomplished in knowing that they helped improved their patient’s health, even if only in the slightest way (“Interview with a Professional”).
I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was
Dentistry is a fascinating profession for its approach to patients, restoring function as well as es-thetic. I believe that Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is the most important specialty in dentistry and medicine which combines art with science. It is appealing when patients leave the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) clinics not only with good function and esthetic, but also in a better psychological status. And I find the AAOMS’s motto “Saving Faces.. Changing Lives..” very insi...

Growing up I heard many stories from my peers of their experiences at the dentist’s office. It is upsetting to say that most of my visits were vividly terrifying. As a child, the grinding, scratching, and high-pitched twangs of the instruments digging around in my mouth would leave my ears ringing and teeth vibrating every single time. The smell of fluoride and disinfectants permanently infected the air, sending chills through my body the minute I walked in. I quickly learned that latex posses an extremely unappetizing aftertaste. Needless to say, I was not always enthusiastic about going to the dentist’s office and getting braces did not make anything better for me.
Moreover in this career I am going to have the opportunity to do one of the things that I really love doing, which is helping others. This career will not only let me teach good habits for good health. But will also let me educate patients, as well as the general public, on how to achieve oral health and to prevent diseases. In fact in the dentistry career I will be able to perform an important service for everyone to help them to maintain their teeth appearance good.
