The definition for Agricultural Education that I believe is well rounded is, “the scientific study of the principles and methods of teaching and learning as they pertain to agriculture” (Barricks, 1988, pg. 5). When I think of Agricultural Education, I typically think about the different disciplines that it impacts, but I believe the definition that Barricks provides gives a solid definition just for Agricultural Education as a whole. To me, the definition of Agricultural Education can be altered depending on where it is being used. For example, what is taught and how it is taught varies depending on if agriculture is being taught in the classroom setting, public setting, age group, and topic discussed. There is not one single definition …show more content…
We need to reach people and communicate and this is something that an agricultural educator should be capable of doing. Agriculture impacts everyone, every day whether they realize it or not. Agricultural Education is not restricted to one age group or one area. Education can occur at any age and any stage of education so therefore we have to be able to adapt to cater to our audience. It is also not restricted to a teacher in agriculture. An agricultural educator can be anybody from someone who works in the industry communicating with a co-worker or a student talking to someone on the bus about agriculture. Even an educator in agriculture can learn something new from another educator.
I believe the end purpose or goal of someone in agricultural education should be to have made a difference in someone’s life because they were able to effectively communicate. We need to be able to communicate with students, co-workers, fellow educators, consumers, producers, people in the industry, and the public. You never know who you may have the opportunity to educate on agriculture, and we need to be prepared. Our end goal should be that education on agriculture is readily available to anyone who seeks it. Agricultural Education is critical for sustaining

Currently, I feel that we are having a lot of issues between the agricultural community and society, but I believe that this is a problem we are working on trying to fix. There has been miscommunication between the two and that is a bridge that needs to be filled. People have the right to know where their food is coming from and learn about what is going on if they desire to. We also have disagreements with other countries about technologies that we have been utilizing such as GMO’s. Many countries do not find this practice safe to consume, so it has had an impact on our exports. We need to continue doing research and disseminate the information and findings we
Many FFA and 4-H members now wouldn't have even been involved in either of these organizations if it weren't for learning it in school. Children go to school every day, so that means that every day if there were an agriculture class, the students would be learning about agriculture every day. Agriculture classes have many different benefits like teaching about farming, FFA, 4-H, careers, and many more things. 4-H is an important part of a child's life. 4-H and FFA can greatly impact the future generations. It is teaching today’s children life skills and things that they can use in the future. If the number of children getting involved in 4-H and FFA keeps increasing like it is now, the future generations will be well educated. Many states around the country have schools that already have an agriculture class. Some schools have as many as four or five agriculture classes at a time. Agriculture classes are vital for the development and future of 4-H and

We are passionate about the reduction and improvement in crops and production. Many of students at Iowa State are going to school for Agriculture and knowing the land-grant mission could help them be more passionate. The mission at Iowa State could help a student to find the will to excel in whatever it is there are doing. The Iowa Learning Farms Organization and Iowa State research and knowledge sharing isn’t just for ourselves, it is for the mid-west, Iowa, the nation, and potential globally. That is why the research being done and the effort we put forth is so important. You may never know what you discover but everyone has the potential to discover something world
Agriculture—it’s something that not very many people know much about. However, it is important for us to survive. Almost everything in our everyday lives is agriculture-related, from the food you eat to the clothes you wear.
Agricultural subsidies is a very complex and controversial economic topic today. It will continue to be a hot topic as government continues it. It is largely debated in the United States as well as in other countries. The reason it is so largely debated is because it literally have an effect on the entire world market. Not to mention that the farm has been booming the last 5 to 10 years. This topic also tends to draw strong opinions in our area in particular due to the large agricultural community in our region. However, even within different states there are many supporters as well as opponents to these government subsidies.
Agriculture is not all work and no play. Many advances can be made in the understanding of agriculture by making available a variety of methods to provide children with a hands-on experience and also educating all individuals about the importance of the practice. The ignorance of urban communities can be overcome with the help of organizations and people within the community. School visits, hands-on experiences, volunteers and organizations are just a few examples of the steps that can be taken to educate Americans about agriculture and close the gap between rural and urban populations.
...nnected to nature and have the responsibility of providing the world food, clothing, and a great deal of other things as well. Through it all farmers are a tight-knit group of men and women who have a mutual respect of nature and each other regardless of what type of farming they choose.
Genetically modified food’s, or GMOs, goal is to feed the world's malnourished and undernourished population. Exploring the positive side to GMOs paints a wondrous picture for our planet’s future, although careful steps must be taken to ensure that destruction of our ecosystems do not occur. When GMOs were first introduced into the consumer market they claimed that they would help eliminate the world’s food crisis by providing plants that produced more and were resistant to elemental impacts like droughts and bacterial contaminants, however, production isn’t the only cause for the world’s food crisis. Which is a cause for concern because the population on the earth is growing and our land and ways of agriculture will not be enough to feed everyone sufficiently. No simple solutions can be found or applied when there are so many lives involved. Those who are hungry and those who are over fed, alike, have to consider the consequences of Genetically Modified Organisms. Food should not be treated like a commodity it is a human necessity on the most basic of levels. When egos, hidden agendas, and personal gains are folded into people's food sources no one wins. As in many things of life, there is no true right way or wrong way to handle either of the arguments and so many factors are involved that a ‘simple’ solution is simply not an option.
An agronomist must partake in many classes. Agriculture is a big part of an agronomists work so he/she must enroll in lots of agricultural classes. Also an agronomist must be interested in sciences such as biology, chemistry, and physics. As well as science a...
Leading up to the end of the 1800’s, agricultural was losing its place as the largest economy in the United States. Farmers felt that they were under-appreciated and taken advantage of, even though they produced food to be distributed nationwide. Although agriculture was imperative to the survival of the nation, farmers faced devastating natural causes, outrageously high rates on land and transportation, and unsuccessful tries in politics.
Family farms are slowly fading away from the American landscape due to the increasing number of industrialized farms. Yet, there are so many benefits that the family farm brings to the community that it would be foolish to let them slip away. As Americans, we need to do everything we can to support out family farmers because they help the community out in many ways. Everything from local, fresh, produce, to helping keep our land free from chemicals and insecticides are just a few of the tasks they do to help everyone out. Without them, the United States will turn into a place where only few farm, and those who do, farm for an economical motive. America needs the farmer who not only farms for themselves but for the entire community as well.
So overall, Agriculture is playing a very important role in changing the lifestyle of different people. Agriculture might have made everything easy for us but it still has its cons. We see the effects of agriculture and how it affects the lives of other species and the environment.
To understand why is agriculture important in the world of today, then first of all we must know what agriculture is? Agriculture is the basic material production of society, the use of land for agriculture and livestock, mining plants and animals as raw materials and labor to produce mainly food and some raw materials for industry. Agriculture is a major industry, covering many disciplines: planting, breeding and processing of agricultural products; in the broadest sense, also including forestry and fisheries. Agriculture is an important economic sector in the economy of many countries, especially in the past century , when the industry has not yet developed. Since the dawn of history, agriculture has been one of the importance means of producing
...ns of people since it first began. Through hundreds of years it has evolved into what it is known for today. Farming is a difficult job that requires a wide variety of skills. It is not difficult to begin a career in the agricultural field, but it is difficult to be successful. Farming is a great job but it requires a lot of hard work. As Weaver previously stated, “I love my job more and more everyday!”
Agriculture is the industry that I am choosing to reflect upon that is one of the top industries in the United States and therefore I felt it to be a good industry to focus on.
