In Deconstructing WikiLeaks the author, Daniel Estulin, tries to find the truth behind Julian Assange and his infamous WikiLeaks website. Estulin is an investigative journalist and author. He is well known for his work and expertise in the field of crisis literature. However, he is not settled just by describing crisis, he hopes to bring truth to some of the world’s most secretive and mysterious occurrences. Through this book, Estulin provides detailed stories and analyses in attempt to fully understand the story behind the largest government and news leakage source in the world—WikiLeaks. Estulin dives immediately into the heart of the issues of interest. As someone who knew little to nothing about WikiLeaks, I had hoped that the book would provide a general background about the organization. Through reading the book and doing my own outside research to familiarize myself with the topic, I was able to understand some of the fundamentals of the organization. Julian Assange founded WikiLeaks in 2006 under the Sunshine Press of Iceland. The entire organization is controlled through the website wikileaks.org which is run as a non-profit organization. Over the past seven years WikiLeaks has continuously leaked documents, which often become popular news stories. The leaks, Julian Assange, and WikiLeaks in general have been a source of many debates and questions throughout the recent years. In the very beginning of the book, Estulin states “there is more to WikiLeaks than meets the eye” (Estulin 5). One of the largest problems within the WikiLeaks organization is the source of their financial funding. According to Assange the money comes from a variety of reasonable sources such as similar-minded foundations and rich individuals w... ... middle of paper ... ...ifferent people and organizations who are a part of WikiLeaks in some way. Additionally the amount of information he gives is extremely overwhelming. Almost every page of the book is filled with numerous facts and figures. I found this book to be very informative. I think that the author does a good job of explaining some of the issues within WikiLeaks without forcing his believes on the readers. It is clear that Estulin thinks that WikiLeaks has ties to the US government in some way, but he does not try to prove that this is the only possibility. Based on the evidence he gives I am inclined to believe that Estulin is on to something with his claims—I think that by deconstructing WikiLeaks, one can see that it is possible that the US Government is working with WikiLeaks. ...s an extremely good job at clarifying his arguments through a use of extreme detail and primary source documents.
...nts on what the book is going to try to prove. To prove his points, Mark used mass quantities of research and facts to express the ideas he was trying to prove. In this case it was whether religious terrorism is any different than other forms of terrorism. The way he chooses to present the information is in a narrative type way, in which he used both researched information and quotes from the interviews he conducted. As I was reading this book, I imagined I was watching a documentary on the History Channel, Juergensmeyer being the narrator. His descriptions helped me picture in my mind what was going on and made me feel as I was getting an insiders view of the action. I felt that he accomplished the goals he set for the book, and by the time I got done reading it I took the stance that religious terrorism is in fact different than other terrorist activities.
Glenn Greenwald, a talented and widely read columnist on civil liberties for the Guardian newspaper, failed in his attempt to alarm his readers to the flagrant and widespread violations of American privacy. Although his article was full of facts, documentation, and quotes from top rank officials, the article did not convey any sense of wrong doing or outrage. Rather it was dull, lacked passion and a sense of persuasion. In fact, the only attention grabbing part in the whole article is the title.
It is the way of life in this age, to search the internet for leisure, research and general amusement. When you are not able to communicate with someone face to face, you pick up the phone. When you venture out of your house for any reason and into populated areas, you are recorded by businesses, photographed by red light cameras, and recorded by traffic cameras. The government has the capacity to watch all of this use. Last year, Edward Snowden’s leaked documents proved it that Big Brother is indeed watching. (Orwell 1)

With the introduction of the internet being a relatively new phenomenon, the act of cyber espionage is not something that has been properly acknowledged by society. The American Government has done a stand up job of keeping its methods in the shadows and away from the eyes of its people since its documented domestic surveillance began on October 4th, 2001; Twenty three days after the Twin Towers fell President George Bush signed an order to begin a secret domestic eavesdropping operation, an operation which was so sensitive that even many of the country's senior national security officials with the...
Pentagon Papers: The Truth to War. On June 31, 1971, President Nixon picked up a copy of his New York Times newspaper and found the 1st story on the Pentagon Papers. The Pentagon Papers was a hidden government document that had information on the Vietnam War. It was also a government study in Southeast Asia. Daniel Ellsberg knew that the government was hiding something.
Edward Snowden, the former National Security Agency (N.S.A) subcontractor turned whistle-blower is nothing short of a hero. His controversial decision to release information detailing the highly illegal ‘data mining’ practices of the N.S.A have caused shockwaves throughout the world and have raised important questions concerning how much the government actually monitors its people without their consent or knowledge. Comparable to Mark Felt in the Watergate scandals, Daniel Ellsberg with the Pentagon Papers, Edward Snowden joins the rank of infamous whistleblowers who gave up their jobs, livelihood, and forever will live under scrutiny of the public all in the service to the American people. Edward Snowden released information detailing the extent of the N.S.A breaches of American privacy and in doing so, became ostracized by the media and barred from freely reentering America, his home country.
This book was a good read for me, but I also read book reviews to help me keep track on what I am reading. These book reviews just made a better understanding of what I was reading.
... source but it was valuable in my research in its own way. It helped me learn about the Cold War from a basic standpoint. I was able to learn about the entire structure from the military to politics and social impact. Communism in general is discussed thoroughly in this book and how that shaped the Cold War.

Julian Assange an Australian editor, activist, journalist and publisher launched the WikiLeaks website in the year 2006. From that moment, the site spiraled rapidly into the limelight all over the world. It then came to be known as the most powerful whistle-blowing and also the most scandalous “media” in the online world. WikiLeaks profanes and violates the right of privacy, right of accountability and confidentiality among Information and data sharing also it has a negative impact on governments, private sectors or businesses and also individuals, there is also a big question of accountability.
It is important to not only know the two sides to the argument of a friend or foe, but to also know the facts as well. My goal in this paper is to present the facts without bias and to adequately portray the two sides of the argument. To give the full picture of Edward Snowden I must start with his role in the government. Edward Snowden never graduated from high school, nor did he graduate from community college (Yann 1). In 2003 he joined the U.S. Army briefly until he was discharged when he broke both his legs in a training accident (BBC 1).
