Generally, the development and adoption of Clinical Decision Support (CDS) systems is based on the necessity and essence of technical standards in enhancing healthcare. However, the various health IT tools must comply with some data interchange standards in order to enhance access to clinical records, lessen clinical errors and risks to patient safety, and promote innovation in “individual-based” care (Hammond, Jaffe & Kush, 2009, p.44). The need for compliance with standards is fueled by their role in enabling aggregation of informa...

Depending upon the quality of the software systems, the accuracy of data and consequently of information are determined. There are a number of major and minor systems placed in Irish hospitals, where patients, clinicians, nursing, it, administration, data entry personnel, researchers, governing bodies, and external auditors have different expectations understanding and requirements. The use of MS Access allows staff with little experience or knowledge of data quality techniques to collect data which is used for crucial decision making process along the patient journey.
One of the biggest dilemmas in owning a store and providing a service in selling a product is figuring out how much of the item to get, if an owner gets too much of a product, the owner will lose money, if the owner does not get enough of a product, customers will shop somewhere else and the owner will not only lose the sale, but also potentially lose a customer who is willing to shop somewhere else to get the product they want. This past Christmas, I was shopping for the latest Frozen Movie Soundtrack for a gift. I had to go to three stores to find the CD to purchase. If the original stores that I went to had the product in stock, I most likely would have bought several more items.

Thinking critically and making decisions are important parts of today’s business environment. It is important to understand how the decision making process works and the steps involved. The nine steps of the decision making process are: identifying the problem, defining criteria, setting goals and objectives, evaluating the effect of the problem, identifying the causes of the problem, framing alternatives, evaluating impacts of the alternatives, making the decision, implementing the decision, and measuring the impacts. (Decision, 2007.) By using various methods and tools to assist in making important business decisions an individual can ensure the decisions they make will be as successful as possible. In this paper it will be examined how the decision making process can be followed using various tools and techniques to make successful business decisions by using these same tools and techniques during a thinking critically business scenario. The paper will also discuss how different tools and techniques could have been used to make different, yet still successful decisions.
Facing a situation, you have to decide. For example, the fire surrounds you: What do you do? Jump through the windows and risk to kill yourself or to wait the firemen and risk to be burned to death if they come to late? Every decision that we make or don’t make shapes our future. Everyone tries to make good decisions. However, it is easy to overlook an important factor, miss a desirable option, or base the decision on unreliable information. In addition, fear of making a wrong choice can cause someone to postpone decisions, leading to miss opportunities. A businessperson must have the ability to make decisions under the pressure of time and circumstances. This ability needs a good knowledge of the decision making process.
This paper will focus on the Rational Model for decision-making. The first section will describe the Rational Model for decision-making. It will identify all the steps of the Rational Model and what they entail. The second section will detail a recent job-related issue I was involved with. I will discuss the issue and show how the Rational Model of decision-making was effectively utilized to reach a decision.
The work of decision making involves choosing between issues that require attention, setting goals, designing suitable courses of action and choosing among several alternatives through the evaluation of each one of the alternatives. Of great importance in decision making is the choosing between the several alternatives. The effectiveness of this work of decision making is of great importance for the well being of every business activity and determines the success of every business (Kay Miranda). In the business setup, decisions that can be made could include product improvement, choice of an investment plan, business expansion and areas of improvement. For business leaders and thus the entire business to be effective, determination of problems and the ability to get reasonable solution is crucial. These leaders should also predict new business trends and thus develop products and services as needed. The reliability and validity of the research, and thus the quality of the business decisions is heavily dependent on the human skills as well as the machines that are used in carrying out business research work.
