Recently, attention has been brought to American football players on the risks of football due to countless concussions and lifelong health problems caused by blows to the head and improper equipment, therefore, the requirements for the equipment should be updated. Not only has the National Football League been found guilty of not realizing it, but the doctors and sports trainers have also. Head trauma early in life can greatly affect you later down the road. Head trauma is nine times out of ten, not curable. Therefore, it is greatly life threatening. Although football is a great pastime sport, it comes with many risks and health issues. Football helmets have been updated and more padding and cushions have been added into them. Yet, percentages of concussions have not decreased. The NFL has also added new rules into tackling in order to better protect the players. Players may not hit the kicker, or any other player that is defenseless. If a player is out of bounds or runs to the sidelines, the defensive player may not hit him. If a quarterback has already released the football, a defensive player may not proceed to tackle him.
