In this essay I plan to discuss whether “embryonic stem cells should be used in the future to regenerate human organs”. I will be discussing the advantages and disadvantages of using embryonic stem cells based upon my research and also come to a conclusion as to if they should be used. A stem cell is an undifferentiated cell of a multicellular organism which is capable of giving rise to indefinitely more cells of the same type, and from which certain other kinds of cell arise by differentiation (Oxford Dictionaries, 2015). This basically means that a stem cell is an unspecialised cell (a cell that has no set function) taken from a developing embryo that is capable of becoming any other type of human cell. Human stem cells can come from human embryos (BBC Bitesize, 2014) and are taken at early stages of an embryos development, for this reason the embryo will not survive and will later have to be destroyed which is one of the main reasons why embryonic stem cells spark some controversy between people. Stem cells come from the eight-cell stage of embryo development (BBC Bitesize, 2014), this is when the embryo is only made up of 8 cells...

If organ regeneration is possible, we should only uses trusted stem cell therapists (The NHS or private practitioners) to prevent unwanted side effects, I think if people use trusted stem cell therapists, it will strengthen their views on the use of embryonic stem cells and allow more people to support the use of embryonic stem cells. Finally, to answer my question; I think that embryonic stem cells should be used in the future to regenerate human organs because of the possibility of a better and healthier human race and in my opinion the best aspect of using stem cells to regenerate human organs will be that they will give humans a better quality of life and prevent suffering.
