Gun Control Gun control, and guns in general, have been a very relevant topic in today’s media. From politics using it as points in their campaign to get votes to the media covering it day in and day out, the debate on gun control has become bigger than it has ever been before. This recent attention is due to the presidential race and the current terrorism in the United States. From the time that the country was established, gun have always had a big contribution to our society. Our founding fathers had written in the Bill of Rights that set in stone our rights. “In the united states, the people have the right to keep and bear arms” (Eichenwald 3). The reason for background checks are to not allow any of the “crazies” to acquire a fire arm. “There are nine classes of persons prohibited from possessing fire arms: (1) person convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year” (Parnell 40). By making everyone trying to at least buy a fire arm legally to take a background check will help. In the process of doing a background check they check your information on a few things. Checking their past legal record is one of the main points of the background check. If they have any convictions dealing with a weapon, they will be denied. Any weapon charges that show up on their record will also get them denied. If they were to have any convictions that went to court and that the court was to have sentenced them to a year or more of imprisonment, they will also not be allowed to purchase the fire arm. Doing so will limit the number of illegals having weapons, but still will not get rid of illegal fire arms that exist in the United
